Neagley’ star Maria Sten breaks her silence on the pressure of leading her own Reacher spin-off

Maria Sten knows what it's like to play Neagley alongside Jack Reacher. But leading her own Reacher spin-off series is a different experience, and the actress is opening up about the pressure that comes with it.

Speaking to Indy100 about the pressure of leading the show, Sten admitted that she does feel it, especially because opportunities like this are still rare, adding:

"Somehow it feels like ok if I win we all win and if I tank we all tank"

Prime Video released Neagley on September 16, with the series consisting of eight episodes in total. All eight episodes are now available to stream on the platform. The series revolves around Frances Neagley, played by Maria Sten, whose friend dies in a suspicious accident. Being a private investigator in Chicago and a close friend of Jack Reacher, she decides to look into his death and find out what really happened.

Maria Sten talks about the pressure that came with leading Neagley

Neagley is a spin-off of Reacher, with Maria Sten returning as Frances, a character who became a fan-favorite during her time on the original series. Prime Video announced the release date along with uploading the first look earlier this year in June, confirming Maria Sten as the lead character for the series.

Frances is a skilled private investigator and former member of Jack Reacher's 110th Special Investigations Unit who starts investigating her friend Tommy's death only to come across a dangerous group who could be behind everything.

Speaking of the Prime Video series to Indy100, she said that she wants to see more people like her leading movies and simply existing on screen as interesting characters, without their identity having to be part of the story. However, the actress openly admitted that she does feel some pressure, adding that she feels her success could help open more doors for others, but if she fails, it could hurt their chances too. Speaking about the series, she added that if the show does not work, it can feel like a loss for everyone.

In another interview with Shakefire, Maria Sten opened up about the pressure of following a successful show like Reacher, where she explained that the success of Reacher brings some pressure as they "don't want to disappoint people." She further added that they wanted to pay respect to both the Reacher show and the books by keeping the same "spirit" and staying "consistent" with what came before.

While Jack Reacher is part of the series, that does not mean he will be around throughout the story. As the title suggests, the show focuses on Frances and gives viewers a closer look at her life. Maria also had a fun way of describing Reacher and Neagley, calling him a "silverback gorilla" and her a "mountain lion."

When asked if she got any advice from Alan Ritchson, Maria Sten said they mostly talked about the pressure of leading a show like this, as both understood what it feels like to carry on a "huge book franchise," but also saw it as a "privilege and an honor."

The series has already scored 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, while it has a 7.6/10 rating on IMDb from over a thousand viewers. Created by Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton, it stars Maria Sten, Adeline Rudolph, Greyston Holt, Jasper Jones, and Alan Ritchson.
