Moriarty will secretly live a double life and act as the architect of complex crimes across Northern England. Sherlock fans will see his struggle against a rival criminal gang threatening his underground empire. He will join the police as a consultant and use the law to stop the threat and destroy his enemies.

He will also conceal his own identity from the police department. Moriarty will form a partnership with Detective Imogen Burrows and fight side-by-side with her to eradicate his threats. However, he will soon realize that the real threat is not the rival criminal gang he is trying to dismantle.

Fan's perspective on the new spin-off's plot

The Sherlock fans are saying different things about the plot of the new show. One Reddit user, roguebubble, said:

"So from that synopsis it's more or less British Dexter. I could see it working if they get the right leads who have good chemistry with each other."

Another user, clain4671, replied:

"I was gonna say it feels more like british blacklist."

The fans are comparing the spin-off to other popular crime TV shows. Some are saying that the plot feels like a British version of Dexter. Others are pointing out the similarity of a character who hides a criminal life while working with law enforcement, which is true.

Kris Thykier and Rebecca Dundon shared their thoughts on the collaboration

The founder of Archery Pictures, Kris Thykier, said that he is excited to team up with Fremantle on Moriarty and called it an original, character-driven spin-off from Chris Cornwell's Sherlock Holmes franchise. According to him, the spin-off will center on a criminal genius. Viewers will witness dark and exciting crime sequences and experience how villains think before committing a crime.

Fremantle's SVP of scripted content for global drama, Rebecca Dundon, said that initially they wanted to team up with Archery, but when Thykier brought this concept to them, they immediately saw huge potential for a successful and ongoing franchise. They also believed that the franchise could spotlight one of the most mysterious figures in the world of Sherlock Holmes.
