Jensen Ackles will be returning for another show's finale, as the actor is all set to return as Russell Shaw for Tracker's season 3 finale. CBS has officially confirmed that the actor will return as Shaw for the episode titled The Best Ones, which airs on May 24 and according to the official details, Russell will help Colter investigate a victim caught in a research project.
Ackles, who is currently juggling his role as Soldier Boy in The Boys' fifth and final season on Prime Video, first appeared as Russell in Tracker season 1, episode 12. That episode was pivotal as it revealed that Russell wasn't involved in their father's death, finally ending the brothers' estrangement. Since then, he's become a fan-favorite whenever he pops up.
This season, the actor has already worked on the first two episodes. His last appearance was October 26, 2025, in Leverage where he destroyed an algorithm which was a blackmail system forcing people into crimes under threat of killing their loved ones. His appearance in the series' finale would most probably also be a high stakes one, keeping in line with his character.
What will happen in the finale for Tracker Season?
The Tracker season 3 finale is shaping up to be absolutely massive, and the buildup has been pretty wild. Throughout season 3, Colter Shaw has dealt with some serious business. The season opened with The Process, a blackmail system that forced people into crimes or faced their loved ones getting murdered. It took two episodes and Russell's help to finally destroy that algorithm and end it, but that was just the beginning of what's turned into an increasingly dangerous season.
Things escalated dramatically in Good Trouble when Colter and a retired police chief he was helping ended up being chased, shot at, and run off the road. The episode literally ended with their car dropping into a gorge. Then we saw as Colter and the chief somehow survived the crash, though the chief was gravely injured. But here's where it got worse: Colter became the main suspect in a string of murders tied to a hired gun who'd been operating in the background.
The mid-season episodes kept piling on the stakes. Meanwhile, Reenie's been battling her own demons through all of this and the season's been building toward something massive, and the finale is where it all comes together.
Tracker Season 3 finale will air on Sunday, May 24.
