A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Season 1, Episode 3, The Squire, ended on a rather exciting note as Egg's secret is out. Until now, the young royal prince enjoyed the anonymity thanks to his shaved head, but it seems that at the moment of urgency, he stepped to save the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, who struck Aerion "Brightflame" Targaryen to save Tanselle.
The HBO series follows a weekend release strategy, as new episodes of HBO hits like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Industry, where new episodes of these shows air on Sundays. However, this weekend is different because this coming Sunday is the Super Bowl. Instead, new episodes of these two shows will air on Friday.
Why are new episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Industry airing on HBO this Friday?
The simple release for the early release is Super Bowl Sunday. For the uninitiated, the Super Bowl is an annual event scheduled on the second Sunday in February. This annual event has been a fixture of culture in the US every year for the past 59 years. Thus, releasing the episodes on Sunday is not prudent because all eyes will be on the Super Bowl. WBD confirmed early release of these episodes through a press release:
"Season 4, episode 5 of INDUSTRY and season 1, episode 4 of A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS will premiere early globally on HBO Max on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6 at 12:01am PT/3:01am ET ahead of their respective HBO airings on Super Bowl Sunday, February 8."
What happens in the third episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
The half-hour-long A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode saw Dunk and Egg enjoy the tourney until a violent end. Aerion cheats in the tourney, earning the people's ire, causing them to attack the royal prince. Later that night, Aerion gatecrashes Tanselle's puppet performance and breaks her hand for showing the death of the puppet dragon, which he takes personally.
Dunk intervenes and strikes the royal prince, causing the latter's teeth to loosen. Thus, Aerion orders his guards to curb-stomp on Dunk when Egg intervenes and reveals himself as the Royal Prince, Aegon V Targaryen. The official promo of the next episode reveals Aerion wants a Trial of the Seven, where each side, Dunk and Aerion, will find six other knights. The logline for the next episode reads:
"After saving Tanselle from Aerion Targaryen, Ser Duncan the Tall must face the consequences of his actions."
Thus, we may finally see the main plot of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms kick off in the upcoming episode.
"A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
Three episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are currently streaming on HBO Max.
