As the issue around Macklemore's removal from his Loop Tour grows more serious, Ed Sheeran is coming under fire from members of his own family. The Shape of You singer has been publicly attacked by his cousin, British artist Jethro Sheeran, who goes by the stage name Alonestar. He said:

“He’s very calculated and cruel”

These are Jethro Sheeran's personal allegations and have not been independently verified; Ed Sheeran has not responded to them.

On September 17, Jethro posted on social media that he was ashamed of his cousin because of his experiences with Ed. Additionally, he claimed that Ed was directly responsible for Macklemore's removal from the tour, even though Sheeran insisted that the tour promoter and venues made the choice.

What did Jethro say about Ed?

Jethro began his post by expressing his disgust with his cousin, claiming that the public was finally seeing Ed in a different light. Jethro stated:

"Finally it's all coming out! I'm ashamed of my Cousin Ed. Finally the world and all his fans see through him. He's not a good person, I don't like his music so I can't say he's even a good artist."

He continued by making a number of personal accusations regarding their relationship, calling Ed Sheeran "a selfish individual with malicious, cunning ways." In addition, Jethro said that he was "his first blood cousin" and that Ed had made fun of mental health and his condition, accusing the singer of mistreating him personally:

"He's honestly a selfish individual with malicious, cunning ways. 'He kills you with kindness' (His Words) I'm his first blood cousin and he screwed me over, made fun of my mental health and mental health in general."

These are Jethro Sheeran's personal allegations and have not been independently verified; Ed Sheeran has not responded to them.

Jethro claims he helped Ed Sheeran early in his career

Jethro, who is the son of Ed’s father’s brother, also stated that he helped Ed at the very start of his musical career. Jethro claims that he brought Ed to his first studio, had him play on his stage, and collaborated with him on some of his early works.

Jethro wrote:

“In my opinion he’s a bad human. Just my opinion from my experiences. I’ve known him all my life and started him in music, took him on my stage. Took him to my first studio, Rapped on his early songs and did all I could to help him.”

Additionally, he asserted that he stood by Ed Sheeran during his school bullying.

“Even when he was bullied at school. He only cared about himself and he puts out fake narrative[s] that’s calculated just to keep everyone happy so he can do big private gigs and keep brand deals.”

Sheeran's first cousin concluded:

“That’s my honest opinion and I’m family!! He’s not a true Sheeran! Don’t hate on a Sheeran because of this silly little boy.”

Why was Macklemore removed from Sheeran's Loop Tour?

The family conflict comes after the backlash from Macklemore's removal from the U.S. leg of Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour.

Sheeran and Macklemore shared the stage during two shows on September 4 and 5 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. He sang his protest song Hind's Hall and expressed support for Palestinians during his performances. Following his comments, there were demands that he be taken off the remaining tour dates.

Messina Touring Group, the promoter for the U.S. leg, subsequently confirmed that Macklemore would no longer appear at the remaining eight dates after venues indicated they would not host the shows with him on the lineup.

Later, Macklemore claimed that Sheeran had been put in a difficult situation and implied that the singer had been under pressure from venue owners, including Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots.

Sheeran has denied removing Macklemore

Ed Sheeran has denied having personally decided to take Macklemore off the Loop Tour, claiming that the promoter and venues made the choice. He claimed that although he had talked to everyone concerned and tried to agree, he was ultimately unable to stop Macklemore's removal:

“Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.”

Sheeran said, adding that he did not want to disappoint fans, crew members and other musicians who depended on the tour.

Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe were among the support performers that dropped out of the remaining gigs in solidarity with Macklemore due to the issue. According to reports, Sheeran's backing band, Beoga, also stepped away.

Ed Sheeran acknowledged making mistakes and expressed regret for how he handled the situation during his September 19 show in Philadelphia. In addition, he talked about Gaza and voiced concerns about venues dictating what performers can say on stage.
