Jimmy Fallon has taken a dig at Donald Trump's alleged low approval ratings ahead of the midterm elections. He also referenced Kash Patel and allegations of alcohol abuse against the FBI director.
On September 25, the Wall Street Journal released a report about Trump and the Republicans' approval ratings. This comes at a crucial time, with the midterm elections scheduled for early November this year. The report claimed that the ratings have dropped to 37%, the lowest for any President ahead of midterms since 1990.
On Monday, September 28, Jimmy Fallon spoke about these ratings on his show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He said:
"According to a new poll, President Trump's approval rating has dropped to the lowest of any president shortly before a midterm. Trump's approval rating is 34.7%. Kash Patel heard that and was like, 'My last breathalyzer was higher than that'."
For the unversed, Fallon's dig at Kash Patel references allegations of alcohol abuse while on duty earlier this year. According to The Guardian, Democrats demanded an alcohol assessment test for the FBI Director in April.
Meanwhile, according to the Wall Street Journal report, their poll was conducted earlier this month. They claim that recent events have led to this drop in the POTUS's approval ratings.
John Catsimatidis, Trump's friend and the New York grocery-store magnate, said about the midterm elections:
“He thinks we’re going to win, but it’s going to be close."
The report further claims that there is distrust among the Republican voters, 11% of whom have allegedly said that they would vote for Democrats. It claims that recent events like the US-Iran conflict, inflation, and the banning of three media outlets, etc., have further led to the discontent.
Jimmy Fallon further takes digs at Donald Trump regarding the Iran conflict
The US hosted the UN General Assembly earlier this month, with leaders from many countries giving their speeches. During his speech, Trump threatened to annihilate Iran amidst their ongoing conflict.
However, he also claimed that the talks between the two countries are ongoing, as they hope to end the war. Jimmy Fallon reacted to the latest reports regarding this and said:
"Meanwhile, after rejecting their latest ceasefire proposal, Trump said he expects the U.S. to hold more talks with Iran this week. When asked exactly how much he'll be talking to Iran, Trump said, 'Somewhere between how much I talked to Melania and my assistant, Nat'," he joked.
"I'm not sure we're close to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. I mean, it's been four months, and Trump still can't reopen the reflecting pool," he added.
Notably, some reports claimed that the US has offered Iran relief from sanctions, among other things, amidst the ongoing talks. However, Trump denied these claims, writing on Truth Social on Monday (h/t The Telegraph):
"This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING"
Iran had reportedly sent a seven-day proposal for a mutual resolution. While the POTUS has claimed that he rejected it, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, has claimed that they have yet to receive an official reply. The talks between the two countries are ongoing through mediators.
