Netflix is bringing a talented group together for their latest book adaptation project, as Kerry Condon and Maya Hawke will star alongside each other for The God of the Woods, based on Liz Moore's bestselling novel. Hawke will star as Judy Luptack, an investigator who is breaking barriers in a male-dominated field. She is tasked with resolving the mystery of a 13-year old girl's disappearance. The role has much in common with her breakthrough role as Robin Buckley on Stranger Things, where she was a part of the young group in Hawkins who dealt with the mysteries and defeat of the Upside Down and it's antagonist, Vecna.

She is joined by Condon, a BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee, who plays Alice Van Laar, the missing girl's mother. Her character is hardened by past family tragedy and trapped in a contemptuous marriage, forced to confront the unimaginable when her daughter vanishes. She's coming off acclaimed performances in F1 opposite Brad Pitt and Train Dreams with Joel Edgerton, both of which earned major recognition.

An official synopsis of the show reads,

“The God of the Woods” is “a multi-generational drama series set in the Adirondacks, exploring the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13 year old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp—in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related. As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.”

Based on both Condon and Hawke's past work, it would certaily be interesting to see what they bring to the show.
