We finally know if Peter Krause will return to 9-1-1, and it's definitely not the best of news. After a year of Bobby Nash's shocking death during 2025's Contagion, fans have hoped to see the actor again on the show with some last-minute twist, which isn't rare for 9-1-1. Theories ranged from secret government coverups to staged deaths, fueled by the show’s history of dramatic reversals. But Krause has now put those rumors to rest.
The actor has officially signed on to headline NBC’s upcoming pilot Protection, where he will play Mike Thornhill, a former Secret Service agent turned Assistant Director of Intelligence. The project blends political conspiracy with family drama and positions Krause as the face of the potential new series. If the pilot moves forward, it would demand a full network production schedule.
This makes it all the more impossible for Krause to return to his roots, since both shows operate on broadcast timelines and require intense commitment that will rarely allow for a crossover.
While 9-1-1 is known for its twists and surprises, Peter Krause won't be a part of any such twists in the future. As much as fans would love to have him back, his story is truly over.
More details about Bobby Nash's character on 9-1-1
Robert “Bobby” Wade Nash Sr. was the steady heart of 9-1-1 for eight seasons. Although born in Minnesota, he relocated to Los Angeles and became captain of Station 118, where he evolved from a guarded, rigid leader into a compassionate father figure. Over the years, he survived shootings, radiation exposure, bomb threats, and near relapses, always choosing responsibility over self-destruction.
His story sadly ended in Season 8 during a bio lab explosion, where he was trapped with his team and exposed to a deadly virus. He then discovers there's only one antiviral dose of medicine, and he chooses to give it to Chimney, sacrificing his own life. He says goodbye to his wife and to 118 and passes away.
It's one of the most devastating deaths on a show that has plenty of devastating moments. Bobby Nash's legacy lives on as he remains a loved and cherished character on the show, even as fans continue to hold on to hope that some twist will bring him back. Although that seems pretty impossible now, we can still hope.
9-1-1 is available to watch on ABC.
