Layla Taylor, star of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and her girlfriend Kelsie Chesser have made their romance public by walking the red carpet together at the 2026 Virtual Reali-Tea Awards in New York.

Layla Taylor and Chesser made their first red-carpet appearance together on Tuesday, October 6, at a Page Six-hosted event. Taylor, 25, wore an asymmetrical floral corset dress with a pleated skirt and light blue strappy heels, while Chesser wore a navy blue suit, black shoes, and a simple gold necklace.

Who is Layla Taylor's girlfriend Kelsie Chesser?

Taylor began dating Kelsie Chesser after publicly identifying as bisexual earlier this year. Chesser revealed their relationship in a TikTok video in July, and Taylor acknowledged it in the comments.

Taylor's public debut comes several months after she first disclosed her sexuality. During a June visit on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, the reality star revealed that she is bisexual and has dated both men and women.

Taylor revealed at the time:

“I’m gay and I’m bi and date women and men.”

Taylor also stated that she had not always understood how to openly address her sexuality and that she was now at a stage where she felt safe sharing every aspect of herself with the world.

When did they go public?

Layla Taylor first revealed her new relationship to fans in July, when she posted a video of herself holding hands with an unidentified woman with tattoos. The post read:

“‘You’re glowing lately.’ Thanks I’m dating a woman now,”

She added the caption:

“Chivalry isn’t dead it’s [with] the lesbians.”

Chesser then shared a TikTok that appeared to confirm her relationship with Taylor. In the video, she joked about sliding into her girlfriend's direct messages while hoping she was interested in women:

“When I slid into my girlfriend’s DMs just hoping she was into girls.”

Chesser wrote in the caption, which included the hashtag #wlw:

“Thankful she was 🙂‍↕️ #wlw #girlfriend.”

Taylor replied in the comments with "Folded," confirming that the two were together. The pair has now taken a step further by appearing together on the VRT Awards red carpet.

Taylor revealed to Page Six that this was her and Chesser's first red carpet appearance together. Chesser stated she was "super nervous" about the occasion.

Chesser has also met Taylor's two kids. When questioned if she had met the children, Chesser confirmed that she had, before enthusiastically responding to the question of whether Taylor's children loved her.

Taylor has two sons with her former spouse, Clayton Wessel. The couple were married from 2020 to 2025.

What does Layla Taylor's coming out journey look like?

Layla Taylor has stated that growing up, she struggled to understand her sexuality due to a lack of gay representation.

She recalls watching Pretty Little Liars and understanding she was attracted to women, but stated she didn't have anyone nearby to help her understand her thoughts:

“Growing up, I didn’t fit in for a lot of reasons in my childhood. I grew up in a very predominantly white area, and being a little Black girl, I already stood out so much to my peers and took that on a lot more than I feel like I realized. I always had these thoughts and I kind of laugh about it now because I would be watching shows like Pretty Little Liars and I would watch, like, Shay Mitchell kissing a girl. I was like, ‘Wait, why is that hot?’”

Layla Taylor also stated that, although she was Mormon at one point, she did not face direct pressure from her parents to shun same-sex relationships. Instead, she thought she lacked examples of people who could demonstrate that her emotions were normal:

“I didn’t know what those feelings were because I didn’t have queer representation around me of [someone] I could look at it and be like, ‘OK, this is normal.’ It wasn’t necessarily that I had parents — or I was Mormon at one point — but I didn’t necessarily have that pressure to not do that. I just didn’t have people around me that modeled that.”

She now describes herself as living in an era where she feels comfortable publicly displaying every aspect of herself.

Layla Taylor is also prepping for the upcoming season of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which is now filming.

Talking about Season 6, Layla Taylor believes it will be a "really good season" and described Season 5 as challenging for viewers to watch. Taylor noted that she hopes viewers will see more of the cast and have a "happier and lighter season."
