The fifth season of Stranger Things was the last we saw of the Duffer brothers, and they will not be returning for the live action spin-off, as confirmed by Randy Havens. The actor, who played science teacher Scott Clarke on the show talked to For The Win about the franchise's future and revealed that the spin-off will have a different set of people behind it.

Speaking to the outlet, Havens talked about how Stranger Things will move forward as he stated,

I hope the legacy is that that audiences still want original material, that audiences will still pay for and watch things that aren't completely just a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off. I know Stranger Things has some spin-offs coming. I know the cartoon is more of an eighties homage to Saturday morning cartoons, which is great. The other spin-off of that I think is more of the mythology, but it's going to have its own energy...

He then added how the Duffers are passing the mantle to other writers and directors and won't be the "main' force behind the show as he added,

'The Duffer Brothers are obviously there, but they're not going to be the main force behind it. They're going to let other writers, other directors put their spin on this mythology. It's not like, "Now, we're seeing Hopper and wherever he's going! Now, Mr. Clarke and Murray have a detective agency in Miami!" We're not going to go that way."

Stranger Things spin-offs to look forward to

After five seasons, Stranger Things officially wrapped on December 31, 2025. But Hawkins is not closing its gates just yet. Netflix has already lined up multiple spinoffs, expanding the universe in both animation and live action, along with a Broadway prequel that dives into the town’s past.

First up is Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated series set during the winter of 1985 between Seasons 2 and 3. The show revisits the original Hawkins crew as they face new monsters and another supernatural mystery. We have new faces and new cast, but the same premise and story, told in animation.

The second project is an untitled live action series, which will introduce new characters in a different decade. It will mark the end of the Hawkins storyline although it will still be related to the mythology of the show.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
