The midseason trailer for Lanterns suggests the whole of Rushville wanted to kill Hal

HBO released the midseason trailer for Lanterns, which includes scenes from the remaining three episodes of the DCU HBO series. It starts with Hal and John meeting each other for the first time in ten years. This is confirmed as we see an even older Hal, who has the beard we see the character sporting in the 2026 timeline of the first episode.

The trailer, which is under two minutes, revolves exclusively around Hal Jordan's impending death. The trailer also subtly reveals what happened to Hal Jordan after John gave Kerry Kane Hal Jordan's location in the last act of Lanterns Episode 5.

The Lanterns midseason trailer further paints an intriguing mystery about Hal Jordan's death:

The midseason trailer opens with a bearded John Stewart walking up to Hal Jordan in the Rushville cafe in the 2020s. Hal tells John that he "took the fall" for the destruction that both of them wrought on Rushville. Therefore, it seems that Hal still refuses to see that he is one of the people responsible for the destruction that happened throughout the fifth episode.

Then the trailer shifts to Kerry and John walking up to Hal Jordan's body in 2026, a scene we saw in the first episode. Then we see scenes of Guy Gardner talking with an imprisoned John Stewart, who has a physical altercation involving him, Billy Macon, and some other Rushville residents.

In that scene, John is lighting up the Rushville Green Lantern Signal, probably inspired by Gotham's Bat-Signal, the city Kerry Kane hails from. Billy and others walk up to John and they have a heated exchange, as Billy and other Rushville people hold the Corps responsible. At one point John asks Guy if the current Lantern can help him investigate Hal's murder.

To this, Guy Gardner replies saying that it is "Bad Optics", the title of Lanterns Episode 6. But the most important scene in the trailer is in the 45 second mark.

The midseason trailer may suggests that the entire town had an axe to grind wit Hal:

The episode also reveals that most of the town owes Zoe, and she in exchange, expects the townspeople to lay down their lives in exchange. She also saves Kerry's life in 2007, as the runaway Gothamite is on the runaway from a mob boss.

As Kerry Kane tries convincing Hal Jordan to leave Rushville, the Lantern legend asks the sheriff to think about her son Noah. Kerry responds to Hal saying that she is thinking about Noah as she tries convincing Hal to leave the Nebraskan town. When Hal prods Kerry further about why she is loyal to Zoe, Kerry responds saying that she owes her "mother-in-law" a "miracle".

The use of the word "miracle" has some fans theorizing that Noah might be part Manhunter. Thus, some believe that either Noah killed Hal Jordan in 2026, or the entire town of Rushville might have conspired it killing off the former Green Lantern.

If the entire town is somehow responsible then Lanterns might be taking a page from Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, which ended with the revelatiion that the all the passengers of the train murdered Edward Ratchett, who in reality is the gangster, John Cassetti, a man who caused them a lot of grief.

Thus, Rushville might have formulated a plan to kill Hal Jordan, the man they hold responsible for the down's destruction.
