Kevin Gates has been ordered to pay his estranged wife, Dreka Gates, more than $1 million from the proceeds of his music catalog sale, as their contentious divorce proceedings progress.

According to court documents reviewed by Complex and reported by TMZ on October 21, 2026, Dreka is scheduled to receive $929,341.50 in child and spousal support, as well as a separate payment of $150,000. The payments total $1,079,341.50.

The order also restricts who can handle the account that holds the catalog sale revenues. Kevin Gates will not be able to function as an authorized individual on the account, which will be controlled by the chief financial officer of his record company, Bread Winner Alumni LLC, and a designated accountant.

The buyer of the music catalog and the total sale price have not been disclosed in the reports.

When did the two divorce?

Dreka filed for divorce from Kevin in Los Angeles on July 30, 2025, alleging irreconcilable differences, according to court documents acquired by People. The filing occurred after nearly ten years of marriage, though Kevin Gates has doubted whether their union was legally binding.

The couple has two children: Islah and Khaza. Dreka's initial divorce petition included joint legal and physical custody, spousal support, and attorney expenses.

The proceedings have since included disagreements about financial support, custody, and the nature of their marriage. Kevin appeared to mention their split on his 2022 single Bad for Me, subsequently saying that the couple had separated since 2020.

However, Dreka's filing put their divorce date as July 10, 2025.

How will Kevin Gates' music catalog sale proceeds be divided?

According to the court order, the earnings from the catalog sale will be split between Dreka, Kevin Gates, and various professionals involved in the divorce proceedings.

Dreka will get $929,341.50 in child and spousal support, as well as a separate direct payment of $150,000. Her legal team has been awarded $125,000 in attorney fees, with $100,000 going to her accountant. Another $103,000 has been set aside for Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS), a third-party mediation service.

Meanwhile, Kevin Gates will receive an initial payment of $538,798, followed by monthly payments of $225,000 starting in October 2026. The papers do not disclose how long the monthly distributions will continue.

The court ruling further specifies how the money should be managed before payments are made.

According to Complex, the proceeds must first be sent to Bread Winner Alumni LLC, one of Kevin's music business organizations, before being deposited into a Morgan Stanley account. The account will be maintained by the company's CFO, Robert Bracy, with certified public accountant William Duerksen serving as the sole other authorized individual.

Kevin is specifically barred from being an authorized user on the account. The reports do not reveal the catalog's total sales price or the buyer's identity.

What did Dreka Gates allege about financial support?

The divorce proceedings featured disputes about Kevin Gates' financial support for Dreka and their children.

Dreka filed petitions in October 2025 requesting more than $70,000 per month in child and spousal support. According to TMZ and XXL, she said Kevin stopped paying for certain household costs in 2021, such as property taxes and private school tuition.

She also requested primary physical custody of their children, Islah and Khaza, who were reported to be 13 and 12 years old, respectively, in the October 2026 publication.

Dreka had sought $27,193 per month in child support and $46,274 per month in spousal support. She further claimed that Kevin had begun to undermine the family's financial foundation by removing assistance for specific expenses.

These claims were made during the current legal proceedings and should be separated from the provisions of the more recent order concerning the music catalog sales.

Gates disputed the validity of the marriage

In an Instagram video posted on January 16, 2026, Kevin Gates described his relationship with Dreka as an Islamic marriage rather than a legally binding one. He also claimed they had been separated since 2020, although Dreka's divorce file cited their separation date as July 10, 2025.

Kevin also accused Dreka and members of her family of stealing money from him, claiming that the funds were used to build a dispensary that shut down after a month. He further accused her of attempting to depict him as a father who neglected to support his children. Marty Singer, Dreka's attorney, denied the theft accusations in a January 19 statement to TMZ, calling them "completely false and fabricated."

The dispute originates from Dreka's October 2025 request for over $70,000 per month in combined child and spousal support. She said that Kevin Gates stopped paying key family expenses, such as property taxes and private school tuition, in 2021.

How did Dreka Gates help build Kevin Gates' music career?

Dreka helped Kevin Gates start his career behind the scenes, co-founding Bread Winner Alumni LLC with him in 2010 and managing bookings as he grew as an independent rapper.

In an April 2016 interview with The Source, she described meeting Kevin while he was recording music at his grandmother's house. After deciding to pursue music professionally, she educated herself on the industry by reading books, getting guidance, and researching how other Baton Rouge artists developed their careers. She then approached promoters to secure opportunities for him, despite encountering pushback from people who were hesitant to work with outsiders. She said:

"We pretty much just made our own path."

Kevin Gates' debut studio album, Islah, later peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Dreka also appeared in some of his music videos and established her own public image. According to TMZ, she resigned as his booking manager in 2022 to pursue cosmetics and cannabis endeavors.
