One of the discussed elements of the series is the s**ual relationship between John Stewart and Zoe Macon (Poorna Jagannathan). Zoe is significantly older than John in the show, and that very fact has the internet buzzing.

Moreover, the first episode also reveals that Zoe is a grandmother, which is one of the recurring jokes in Reddit circles on Lanterns' John Stewart. Therefore, many fans replaced the "No evil shall escape my sight" portion of the Green Lantern oath with "No granny shall escape my sight".

Now, the preview for the next episode of Lanterns also suggests that Zoe and John are going to share an even deeper bond that might have unexpected ramifications for Stewart's character arc in the DCU moving forward.

As fans continue to joke about John's attraction to women older than him, the DCU series might be building towards something. The preview for the next episode shows a drop of blood falling on an eye. We are not given a total context for this scene, but many believe that the eye belongs to John Stewart as he is rescued from the car, and the blood belongs to Zoe.

If it is indeed John's eye, we may finally learn why everyone in Rushville is hale and healthy. The previous episodes have hinted that Zoe, being the Manhunter, might have been responsible for the town's healthy condition and technological advancements. If Zoe is indeed John's savior, it may have altered John's DNA.

Therefore, we may see John as a meta human in the DCU, which has some interesting possibilities for his character arc in the cinematic universe. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after the fourth episode, actor Poorna Jagannathan hinted that John Stewart might be more than just a hookup:

"And along the way, Aaron becomes more than just a strategic move on the chessboard. He becomes more to her, so much so that, I don’t know if you caught it, but in 4, she actually tells John Stewart who she is.”

On one level, some think that Zoe's confession to John might be a way to convince the Green Lanterns to leave Rushville for good. Another way to read that scene is that while she saw John as a pawn, over time she does feel some deeper connection with him.

If Zoe does save John's life through blood transfusion in the upcoming Lanterns episode, we may see why John doesn't have the Green Lantern ring in the 2026 portion of the first episode.
