One Defenders star won't be back for Daredevil: Born Again season 3 and here's why

The Defenders star Jessica Henwick will not join Daredevil: Born Again season 3 as Colleen Wing. Jessica Henwick confirmed the news when speaking with Inverse. However, the reason isn't anything dramatic, as Jessica Henwick herself has explained why she's not returning. As per the actress, Colleen's story already had a satisfying ending, which is why she chose not to return this season.

Henwick appeared as Colleen Wing in The Defenders alongside Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter, who plays Jessica Jones, Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, Finn Jones, who plays Iron Fist and Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra Natchios. As per reports, Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will reunite The Defenders, with Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter returning as Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones.

While many hoped Colleen Wing would reunite with the other Defenders, Henwick will not be part of the new season.

Jessica Henwick reveals why she won't be in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3

Speaking to Inverse on joining the Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, Jessica Henwick said that she would love to return, adding that she knows many of her co-stars are coming back, but she isn't part of this season. She added that while she had "discussions," she feels Colleen Wing's story already had a happy and complete ending with her character "going off into the sunset."

This confirms that Henwick's absence is a creative decision and not because she didn't want to return. Jessica Henwick has been part of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, where she appeared as Colleen Wing.

But does this mean Henwick will never return as Colleen Wing? Not necessarily. Speaking to Inverse, the actress said she isn't interested in bringing the character back unless there's a good reason, because bringing her back would likely mean taking away the happy ending she already got. However, she did add that she would "absolutely love" to return, but only if the story is right.

However, Henwick isn't the only one who feels that way. The actress told Inverse that the creatives didn't want to bring her back just for a small role, adding that she hopes to return one day but doesn't know when.

Looking at the ongoing cast, it looks like Daredevil: Born Again is expanding beyond Matt Murdock's story, played by Charlie Cox.

When is Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 releasing?

As of now, Season 3 doesn't have a confirmed release date. However, it is reported to release in 2027 on Disney+. The reported cast of Season 3 includes Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann, Margarita Levieva, Wilson Bethel, Nikke M. James, Arty Froushan, Zabryna Guevara, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones.

The official synopsis is yet to be released. However, based on how Season 2 ended, there are speculations that Season 3 will start with Matt Murdock in prison, while the Defenders protect New York as Murdock deals with the new scene.
