It's been almost a month since the finale of Netflix's Stranger Things came out, and fans are still reacting to the fact that the original runtime of the final episode was very different than what we got.

In an interview with The Wrap, the creators Ross and Matt Duffer talked about a few ideas they couldn't exactly squeeze in for the finale as they told the outlet about where, as many fans asked, all the creatures were during the fight with Vecna. Speaking about that, Matt Duffer stated,

"Mainly it’s just that Vecna was not expecting this sneak attack on his home turf. Never in a million years could he even imagine that. They’re there somewhere. We obviously discussed having a demo battle on top of the Mind Flayer battle, but it felt more right to us that why does he need the demos when the Mind Flayer is this giant thing and can attack them? He doesn’t need his little ant army to attack, he’s going to take care of this himself."

He then continued to add that there was a version where the team encountered the creatures, but the idea was scrapped as he added,

"We did at some point have that they were going to come across a giant field of demo eggs in kind of an Aliens thing, but you can’t get all your ideas in there,"

Ross Duffer then confirmed this was an idea in the three-hour version of the Stranger Things finale, which ended up never being written.

The Stranger Things series finale, titled The Rightside Up, launches straight into the most ambitious battle the show has ever staged, bringing every major character into one last coordinated fight against Vecna and the Mind Flayer.

Eleven, Kali, and Max confront Henry in his own mind while the rest of the Hawkins crew divides themselves into teams across the Abyss. Hopper and Murray prepare to destroy the Upside Down from within, knowing there may be no way back. The final battle plays like a Dungeons & Dragons campaign brought to life, with every character using their specific strengths, from Nancy’s sharpshooting to Dustin and Steve fighting beneath the Mind Flayer itself.

Vecna’s defeat is the biggest conclusion here. Although Eleven nearly delivers the final blow, it is Joyce who ultimately kills Henry, closing the circle that began when she was the first to believe something was wrong with Hawkins. Her final act is raw and furious, as he tells him that he dealt with the wrong family.

The Upside Down collapses after Hopper triggers the bomb using Prince’s Purple Rain, sealing the rift between worlds for good, but sadly, not everyone makes it out. Eleven makes the difficult choice to remain behind, sacrificing herself so she can never be used again by anyone. She gets a final emotional goodbye with Mike, as she disappears along with the Upside Down. Her "Death" is left ambiguous, with another hopeful ending for her written by Mike.
