The latest episode of the platform's historical romance series brought an unexpected ambush at Castle Leoch, while Dougal and his men were away at war. With no protection, Ellen took charge and bravely stood up to the enemy, protecting both Castle Leoch and the MacKenzie women.
According to Show Snob, Lord Lovat suggested a different strategy against the Red Coats. Lovat ordered Dougal and Brian to divide their armies to prevent the chances of getting discovered. While Brian and Dougal did not agree with Lovat's new strategy, they had no choice but to comply.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 3 revealed that things are tough at Castle Leoch after Dougal's departure. With Dougal gone, Maura was struggling to adjust with the MacKenzies and Colum was left to defend the Castle alone. While Colum had transferred the castle's ownership to Ellen, he still considered himself the lord of the clan. A heated conversation between Maura and Ellen at the dinner table created a tense atmosphere and Ellen retreated early for the night.
Things took a turn in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 3 when James MacKinney and some of his men planned an ambush at Castle Leoch. Since James was unhappy with Colum's leadership, he planned to overthrow the MacKenzies while Dougal was away. Things took a turn at Castle Leoch in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 3 when Ellen learned about the ambush. Channeling her father's teachings, Ellen used her bow & arrow to take out the MacKinney guards. Jocasta, Maura and the rest of the women were inspired by Ellen's bravery and prepared to take on their captors. But tragedy struck when Janet was killed in the scuffle, resulting in a huge loss for Ellen.
As the episode concluded, Ellen took a fatal shot at James MacKinney. As James neared his death, he revealed an important truth about Lord Lovat. It turns out that Lord Lovat had cut a deal with the English and placed a trap at the front. This also explained why Lord Lovat insisted on dividing Dougal and Brian's forces, and Ellen's brother's army was likely sent to their deaths.
MacKinney's revelation naturally made Maura, Ellen and Colum worry about Dougal. While Colum maintained that Brian was likely in on Lord Lovat's strategy, Ellen refused to believe that he would betray his country. In the episode's final scene, Ellen raced on horseback to the front, determined to save her brother from Lord Lovat’s deadly strategy.
