Outlander Season 8 Episode 5, titled Send for the Devil aired on Starz on April 3.

The latest episode of the fantasy period drama, based on Diana Gabaldon's eponymous book series, started with an ominous warning. Since Jamie and Claire were left alone on the Frasers' Ridge (with only Buck), Cunningham planned a surprise attack.

Whitaker (father of the twins Claire delivered in the previous episode) revealed that he and his men overheard Cunningham planning a surprise attack on Jamie and deliver him to Major Ferguson, to be hanged for treason. This news forces Jamie to make a dangerous deal, which will certainly create problems for him in the future.

Elsewhere, Roger started preparing for war in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5 as the Siege for Savannah began, while Brianna worried for her husband at Lord Grey's house. Sparks were flying between William and Lady Grey as the former proposed marriage to her. However, a shocking truth came to light that is bound to change their dynamics in the upcoming episodes.

Here is the complete Outlander Season 8 Episode 5 recap.

Jamie makes a deal with the devil in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5

Once Whitaker warns Jamie about Cunningham's impending attack in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5, he understands that it will likely take place at the meeting in the lodge, as the men will be unarmed. However, Jamie forms a plan of his own and uses the Ardsmuir men and the Beardsley twins to hide weapons outside the Lodge in anticipation of the attack.

Meanwhile, Jamie sends Jo on a secret mission to ask Cleveland and his men for help. However, Cleveland is a no-show on the Lodge night, and Jamie leaves after promising Claire that he will be back safe and sound.

The meeting at the Lodge goes as planned, and just when everybody is praying, Jamie and his men sneak away. It's not long before Cunningham understands that Jamie has played him in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5, and he leaves to battle it out with the Frasers. Jamie is shocked to see Cunningham's fearless demeanor, who is convinced he still has five more years to live (according to his son's prophecy).

When he charges towards Jamie with a rifle, determined to deliver him dead to Ferguson, Buck MacKenzie shoots him in the back and saves Jamie. Claire is happy to see a wounded but alive Jamie at her doorstep, but Cunningham needs her medical attention more. Without giving a second thought, she begins treating the Captain, who was about to kill her husband just moments ago.

The next morning, Jo finally shows up with Cleveland and his men, who promise to fight Cunningham on his behalf. However, this also brings Jamie closer to his prophecized doom according to Frank's book, as Claire notes:

“Send for the devil, the devil appears.''

William discovers a truth about his dead cousin in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5

While battle roars outside, Brianna finds comfort in her half-brother's company in Outlander Season 8 Episode 5. She subtly advises William to try to get to know their father and reveals that she also learned about Jamie's existence only later in her life. Later, as the battle roars, William promises Brianna to accompany her to the Continental Camp in the morning to search for Roger. Brianna literally melted when she was reunited with Roger in the morning and tearfully blamed him for making her worry. The duo learns that Roger helped save a young boy's life, who was treated by none other than Denzell, Rachel's brother. As Roger learns about his connection with Denzell, William decides to stay and catch up with him, while the couple leaves for Savannah.

Once Roger and Brianna are gone, Denzell asks William to wait while he gives a list of dead soldiers to the General, who is none other than William's supposedly dead cousin, Ben. While William is overjoyed to see his cousin alive, he realizes that he is the General of the Continental Army. As William concludes that Ben likely faked his death to side with the enemies, he punches him in the face and demands an explanation as the episode concludes.
