PBS 2027 lineup: Every series renewed for a new season on the network

PBS is heading into 2027 with a lineup that proves its most beloved stories still have plenty of life left in them. From returning period dramas to mystery favorites, the network has already lined up a strong slate for the year ahead.

PBS is an American non-commercial, free-to-air public television network and program distributor, known for its in-depth journalism, research-based educational shows and cosy mystery dramas. With the arrival of Fall, it's time to tuck in and tune in to these returning classics.

Here’s a closer look at the PBS series confirmed to return with new seasons in 2027.

These period dramas will return on PBS with new seasons

1) The Forsytes

The network's period drama series, based on the novels by John Galsworthy, is renewed for a third season. The Forsytes follows the lives of the eponymous upper-class family of stockbrokers across four separate generations in late-Victorian England. The series chronicles the lives of the wealthy Victorian family, as they are torn between tradition and their individual happiness.

The Forsytes' traditional approach to family drama made it a beloved PBS title, which will return with more stories in Season 3.


2) Miss Austen

Keeley Hawes and Jessica Hynes-starring four-part historical drama, based on Gill Hornby's eponymous novel, is returning with its second season. Miss Austen Season 2 will be based on Hornby's latest novel The Elopement, which follows the life of the daughter of Jane Austen’s niece, Mary Dorothea Knatchbull.

The second season will mark the return of Hawes as Cassandra, Haynes as Mary Austen, along with the main ensemble, which includes Rose Leslie, Max Irons, Alfred Enoch, Phyllis Logan, Calam Lynch, Mirren Mack, Patsy Ferran and Kevin McNally.


3) All Creatures Great and Small

Fans will be pleased to know that PBS has renewed All Creatures Great and Small for seventh and eighth seasons, with Season 7 scheduled to premiere on January 17, 2027.

It's time to return to the Yorkshire Dales in Season 7, which will undergo many changes in a post-war setting. While our favorite characters will finally reunite under one roof in Skeldale House, they will have to navigate the changing world. As James gears up for advancements in veterinary medicine, a new arrival will threaten his position in the community, resulting in more drama and heartwarming tales.

1) Miss Scarlet

Miss Scarlet's renewal is bittersweet as the network's beloved crime drama series will conclude after its seventh season. The seventh and final season is currently in production and is expected to be released in 2027.

The final season of Miss Scarlet will follow Miss Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips) as she solves crimes in Victorian London, while developing a relationship with Inspector Alexander Blake. The upcoming season will offer a definitive chapter in Eliza's life as she tries to juggle her personal and professional life.


2) Unforgotten

PBS' critically acclaimed crime drama series is renewed for a seventh season. Each new season of Unforgotten deals with a new case, introducing seemingly unconnected characters who are gradually revealed to have some relationship with the victim.

Unforgotten Season 7 will mark the return of Sanjeev Bhaskar as DCI Sunny Khan, Sinéad Keenan as DCI Jess James, along with a new ensemble, namely Sophie Rundle, Julian Rhind-Tutt and Natalie Simpson. The upcoming season will follow yet another harrowing murder mystery as human remains of a child are found concealed in a crawl space in Ladbroke Grove, London.


3) Maigret

The Benjamin Wainwright-starring crime drama series, based on the Jules Maigret novels by Georges Simenon, is scheduled to return (with its second season) on PBS on October 18.

The second season will follow Chief Inspector Maigret as he solves Paris' most complex crimes using unorthodox methods, while dealing with his own troubled past.


4) The Marlow Murder Club

PBS' cosy mystery comedy-drama, based on Robert Thorogood's series of novels, has been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4, with the third installment set to be released on September 6.

The Marlow Murder Club Season 3 will reunite DI Tanika Malik, retired archaeologist Judith Potts, vicar’s wife Becks Starling and dog walker Suzie Harris as they solve a string of high-profile crimes, namely the shocking murder of the Mayor of Marlow and the stabbing of an unpopular celebrity chef.
