Back in 2013, The Big Bang Theory took home one of the most coveted awards of the night during the People's Choice Awards, and it remains a heartfelt moment for fans of the show. The show won the award for Favorite Network TV Comedy, and Simon Helberg, who plays Howard on the show made sure to deliver a funny, heartfelt and beautiful speech that honored the people who worked on the show.

Taking the stage, Helberg started off by thanking showrunners Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Steve Molaro and the director Mark Cendrowski. Continuing, he added,

"The people have spoken. I just want to say that every day I get to work probably 20 minutes, half an hour early, because I love doing what I do. And I get out of the car, and I realize that all the other cars belonging to the cast members are already there. And it’s not because they were too drunk to drive home the day before, it’s because we all really love doing this. And it really is the epitome of “find what you love, and you never have to work a day in your life,” so thanks for helping us to never work."

The Big Bang Theory won the award against Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, and New Girl. It remains one of the biggest achievements for the beloved sitcom, and one we all probably look back at.

The Big Bang Theory follows a group of socially awkward but intellectually gifted friends living in Pasadena, California. At its core are physicists Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, whose rigid routines and emotional blind spots clash with the real world, especially after Penny, an aspiring actress, moves in across the hall.

Over time, more characters joined in as we got Howard Wolowitz, Raj Koothrappali, Amy Farrah Fowler, and Bernadette Rostenkowski, making sure more diverse characters joined in, and more dynamics were introduced.

One of the most important parts of the show is its representation of a group of friends who are in different stages of life, are completely different, and yet stick together like glue. The show's lasting legacy is proven with the success of its spinoff, Young Sheldon, and Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.

The show also received acclaim for weaving real science into mainstream comedy, with physicists and Nobel laureates frequently appearing as guest stars. The character of Sheldon was loved by everyone, and the show helped shape a distinct comedic voice that resonated globally.

Running for 12 seasons and 279 episodes, the series became one of the most influential and commercially successful comedies of the 21st century.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Prime Video.
