Phantom Lawyer finale recap and ending explained: Yi-rang and Gi-jung plot to get the evidence back

In the previous episode of Phantom Lawyer, Yi-rang and Gi-jung were seen defending themselves against the Four Dragons gang. While Yi-rang secured his father's talisman, they failed to protect the tape recorder. Gi-jung also visits Tae-baek to find out whether they have the evidence, but learns that the gangster Tae-gon has not given it up.

Later, Yi-rang, accompanied by Na-hyeon and Gi-jung, visits Chinatown and encounters the gang members again. Through them, they learn that Tae-gon was trying to flee the country but was not aware of how. Since Gi-jung had worked with these gangsters when he was alive, he helped Na-hyeon and Yi-rang zero in on the harbour from where he would try to leave.

The trio then arrives at the harbour and catches Tae-gon before he can flee the country. Gi-jung possesses Yi-rang to scare the gangster, who tells them that he has already given the recorder to Do-kyung.

After learning that Do-kyung already had the evidence with him in the Phantom Lawyer final episode, Na-hyeon and Yi-rang realise that he also does not believe in his father. Na-hyeon tries to use this to her advantage and talks to Do-kyung, but he refuses to give her the tape recorder.

This prompts Yi-rang to meet Byeong-gil, who still believes Yi-rang has the recorder, and plots to get him arrested. However, Yi-rang had his own plan and met Do-kyung before Byeong-gil. He tells him he knows he has the evidence and asks him to take care of it, since holding on to it might become difficult for him.

This makes Do-kyung double-check that the evidence was safely hidden, but he had no idea Gi-jung's ghost was there, and now knows where the tape recorder is. With Gi-jung's help, Yi-rang provides Bong-su with the password, who, in the guise of an electrician, enters Do-kyung's cabin and steals the tape. Bong-su then hands over the tape to Na-hyeon.

Elsewhere, before getting arrested, Yi-rang informs Byeong-gil that his own son has the evidence of his crimes.

Later, in Episode 16 of Phantom Lawyer, Byeong-gil and Do-kyung are shocked by the evidence being stolen. As they try to plan to get it back, they learn that Na-hyeon has called the press and her prosecutor friend to help expose Byeong-gil's crimes.

She later gives the tape to Yi-rang, who introduces himself as Gi-jung's son to the press and reveals that his father and Mr. Yoon both were innocent and were killed by Byeong-gil. He then plays the recorder in front of the press, where Byeong-gil discusses with the Chief Judge about his plan of killing Mr. Yoon and Gi-jung, and also ruining his image.

In the end, instead of Yi-rang, it is Byeong-gil who gets arrested, and he still doesn't repent any of the crimes he had committed.

Elsewhere, Yi-rang's whole family gets to meet Gi-jung and spend some time with him before he passes on. As he prepares for more ghost clients, viewers also get a glimpse of Na-hyeon and Yi-rang finally getting together at the end of the K-drama.
