Lovers of the heroic tales and daring animation now have something to be excited about. It is reported that well-known animation director Genndy Tartakovsky, famous for Primal, Samurai Jack, Dexter Laboratory, and more, is currently negotiating an animated Game of Thrones spin-off. It would not be just an ordinary cartoon, but a fresh take on the world of Westeros as an animated piece.

There is not much information available yet, but the concept is attractive. It has the potential to blend the rich fantasy world of George R.R. Martin with the unique visuals and quality storytelling of Genndy Tartakovsky. With dragons, monsters, and dramatic intensity, fans are already speculating what this project might look like.

What is the Game of Thrones spin-off all about?

In a recent interview with Deadline, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, Casey Bloys, confirmed that, currently, the Game of Thrones project associated with Genndy Tartakovsky is called Nine Voyages, or the Sea Snake story. It follows Corlys Velaryon, the renowned Sea Snake, whose adventurous expeditions to foreign waters assisted in making House Velaryon mighty and revered.

Initially, the show was intended to be a live-action prequel, but was later adapted into animation. This was because it would have cost even more to depict the massive escapades of Corlys, the distant land, exotic cultures, wild seas, and sea wars in live-action. Whereas animation provides the possibility to display great places, fantasy creatures, and heroic journeys without any boundaries.

It would center on the early wanderings of Corlys, many years before House of the Dragon, and dive deeper into the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. It is a perfect fit for animation because of its adventurous, legendary tone and the creative style behind Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal.

Genndy Tartakovsky is not an ordinary animator but a large contributor to contemporary animation. Whether it is the incisive silent narrative of Samurai Jack or the gritty, wordless drama of Primal, he is credited with bold pacing, a brash visual style, and heartfelt tales that are delivered through action.

Should he become a part of this spin-off of Game of Thrones (although it is merely in the negotiations stage), it would make a massive impact. His style has the potential to present fans with a Westeros that is stunningly grand and cinematic, but with the help of strong and beautiful animation. Grand wars, exotic countries, and legendary monsters might seem even more impressive visually on screen.

Animation also gives more permissiveness than live action: larger creatures, more dangerous images, and more fantastic scenes. Although he is not officially confirmed yet, the very possibility that Genndy Tartakovsky might be involved has given animation fans and Game of Thrones enthusiasts huge excitement.
