Prime Video has confirmed that Mike Flanagan's Carrie will premiere on October 7, with all eight episodes releasing together. The announcement was made during the series' panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and fans also got to see the very first glimpse into the debut teaser.

The brief clip reveals Carrie White's world, packed with unsettling moments and pain. It shows the students collapsing on the school gym floor and also hints at the teenager's prom queen moment.

Not only this, but the teaser also highlights the horrifying aftermath as she lets out a chilling scream while flames consume the scene. Complete plot details remain hidden, but fans can expect horror, emotional tension, and psychological drama to take center stage.

Mike Flanagan says Prime Video's Carrie will surprise even longtime fans

While the teaser shows familiar moments, Mike Flanagan explained that the series isn't trying to recreate the exact copy of the 1976 horror classic. He noted that Stephen King's work is timeless, but the world of teenagers has changed dramatically, and they made sure the series resonates with today's audience. He said:

"It is iconic. It is untouchable. There is no reason whatsoever to try to follow in those footsteps and to try to walk on that path. However, the world has changed quite a lot."

To make the story feel relevant, Flanagan said that the series focuses on challenges that young people face today. The students will face mental health struggles, pressure from social media, and even active shooter drills in schools.

During Carrie's development stage, Flanagan invited several high school students into the writers' room and encouraged them to speak honestly about their own experiences. They shared how different ways of bullying leave lasting impacts on students, as they're often ignored

There are "many surprises in store" for longtime fans, and Flanagan also added that:

"It’s a thrilling way to adapt something. That is how we were approaching Carrie. That’s what got Stephen King very excited about this adaptation. I think a lot of people think they know what the show is."

He continued:

"And the biggest thing I’m excited about today is just knowing what a big surprise our Carrie is going to be. It certainly was to me."

He revealed that the adaptation contains major surprises that even excited King himself. So, even if you're familiar with the story and the main events, prepare yourselves for some new twists!
