Pro Bono Episode 1 recap: Kang David's fall from grace

tvN's K-drama, Pro Bono, is the latest series that would keep you hooked with its entertaining and meaningful stories. It tells the story of Kang David, a popular judge, who has been doing his job perfectly and has a large social media following.

The ambitious man had a plan and wanted to reach the Supreme Court of Justice, but everything came crashing down after he found himself in a bribery case. This resulted in him having to start from scratch and resign from his position as a judge, and become a public interest lawyer.

Here's what happened in Episode 1 of Pro Bono.

Pro Bono Episode 1 recap: Kang David plans to become a Supreme Court Justice candidate

In the premiere episode of Pro Bono, Kang David is introduced as the eccentric judge with a huge social media popularity. He is known for his work and clean image in the legal field, and also on the internet. However, it is later shown that the ambitious judge does most of the things for a show, as he has a goal in mind, to reach the Supreme Court of Justice.

While one of his seniors is still skeptical about him, David still maintains his performative skills. His performance brings fruitful results for him as he is nominated for the candidacy. Later, he encounters Park Gi-ppeum, another lawyer, and assumes she might be a court employee who might vote for him, and tries to help her. However, when he learns she was a lawyer, he drops his act and leaves after a banter with her.

It is later revealed that David was keeping his promise to his mother. When he was in high school, she had asked him to promise her to become a successful person; therefore, he had a goal to achieve. However, his dreams are shattered after an incident that made him lose his job.

Pro Bono Episode 1 recap: David starts from scratch after a bribery case

Later in the episode of Pro Bono, David is asked to meet a childhood friend. While sharing a few drinks and reminiscing about the old days, his friend asked him to give him his autograph. But the meeting changed everything in his life as the next morning, he found a box full of cash in his car, and had to inform his boss.

To save his own reputation, his boss asked him to resign before anything came out about the cash, as this would then affect both of their careers. After inquiring about the man he met, David learned that he was actually a scammer who was after his senior, and planned everything to destroy David's reputation.

After resigning, David joins a new law firm, thinking he might be able to still save his career, but instead is sent to the Pro Bono team to take care of the public interest cases. There, he meets Gi-ppeung again and learns that she is also part of the team.

In the upcoming episodes, the K-drama will depict how David becomes a part of the team, even if it is reluctantly at first.
