Once Reacher was free, he headed to Leo Ahlquist’s office to uncover the truth about the mysterious photo in Reacher Season 4 Episode 7. Turns out, the photograph contained the formula (on a whiteboard in the background) for a chemical weapon of mass destruction. Ever since the Sarin gas attacks in Tokyo, the CIA was determined to create its own chemical weapon and they contracted DARPA for the job. The project was called Operation Mongoose and was in collaboration with General Putra. While the Delta Force trained Putra's troops, he provided the location for a secret chemical lab. The operation was kept a secret from Sampson, who would have blown the whistle, but Cahill was in on it.

Ahlquist further revealed that Anna's theft of the drive tripped a security alarm in Reacher Season 4. While the Department of Defense sent its agents after Anna, Lila and Amisha started their side hustle of developing the weapon for money. Amisha, a member of Putra's special forces who worshipped him, managed to digitally refocus and reveal the contents of the illegible whiteboard (in the photograph), which gave them the formula. Additionally, Lila used seeds from a plant native to Indonesia and integral to creating the weapon.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 7 recap: Docherty had a change of heart

Things were also looking bad for Jacob in the previous episode, who was left at the mercy of Docherty. However, Docherty had a change of heart in Reacher Season 4 Episode 7 and let Jacob go. Naturally, Jacob immediately contacted Reacher and Tamara. He tipped them off that Lila and Amisha had already created a working version of the weapon, which they were planning to sell on the dark web.

However, the listing mentioned a proof-of-concept demonstration to prove the weapon's worth, which was bad news for Reacher and the gang. Jacob warned Reacher that time was running out. A lot of people were set to die if he did not figure out the target venue for Lila and Amisha's demonstration.

The ticking clock sent Docherty on a wild goose chase as he staked out an outdoor orchestra playing movie theme tunes. When Reacher got the all-clear from Docherty, he shifted his focus to morning rush-hour traffic and contacted Sampson to get the interstates shut down.

Once Sampson, who was in the middle of his fundraiser, learned the details of Operation Mongoose, he realized it was too late to stop the explosion, as the real target was his own event. This prompted Sampson to share a crucial detail with Reacher. It was Sampson who pulled the trigger on Putra when a US team was sent to take him out. Putra's killing was witnessed by Amisha, which makes Sampson the perfect target to seek vengeance for his death.

Sampson's confession made Reacher realize that Lila and Amisha had planted Tomas Waberi as a suicide bomber at the fundraiser. As Reacher headed to the event, Sampson used his training to spot Waberi in the crowd. However, with Reacher stuck between the crowd and Waberi becoming aware of Sampson's eyes on him, he was about to put their plan in motion.

But the final moments of Reacher Season 4 Episode 7 saw Sampson tackling Waberi into a nearby river with the bomb. As Sampson and Waberi both fell into the river, the bomb exploded underwater, likely claiming both Waberi's and Sampson's lives.

With this, the explosive penultimate episode of Reacher Season 4 concluded.

The Season 4 finale is scheduled to be released on Prime Video on September 16.
