Robert is the man she loves. She feels sad, angry, and confused. Marian rides into the forest to face Robert in person. She wants the truth from him. When they meet, Robert admits everything. Marian does not fully believe him. She reminds him of the violence around him. She mentions the attack on the Bishop of Hereford. She talks about the innocent people who were hurt. Robert says he was forced into this life. He says her father and the Sheriff hunted him. But Marian can no longer accept who he has become. She cannot match the man she loved with the rebel he is now.
With deep pain but strong courage, Marian makes her choice. She tells Robert she cannot support his violent path. She ends their relationship and rides away. She believes this is the last time they will ever meet.
Queen Eleanor and the arrival of Prince John

She tells Marian that betrayal is part of life with powerful men. Eleanor lets Marian spend time alone in the fields nearby. Without knowing it, she creates the moment for a life-changing meeting.
While Marian is alone, two vagrants attack her. The situation becomes dangerous. Then a mysterious nobleman appears. He is charming and skilled with a sword. He drives the attackers away at swordpoint. The stranger is revealed to be Prince John. He has suddenly returned from France. He did not tell his mother he was coming back.
