In the premiere moments of Sheriff Country Episode 13, “The Finest,” a huge explosion occurs where a school bus is located in Edgewater. This is not an investigation or long-running case; it is a full-blown, immediate crisis that is not a slow burn and needs a collaborative and urgent approach.

The resultant explosion destroys the bus, and while panic sweeps through the residents of the small town, law enforcement races to understand the severity of the damage. Upon confirmation that nine children were unaccounted for, however, the crisis moves from determining the extent of the damage to a full-scale rescue.

It paints a compelling, realistic picture of a true life-or-death situation and lays the groundwork for a must-watch, big, dramatic crossover event. This episode is the best, in that it does not let up from the second one, but instead takes you on a journey and lets you believe you are really there.

In many ways, however, it’s also great because it doesn’t get melodramatic for the sake of drama and keeps its sense of reality and immediacy of the situation. It focuses purely on what’s going on, keeping it real and naturally leading to the second part of the crossover.

Ultimately, this episode packs a punch, combining intense drama with a focus on the event and moving the story forward in a truly exciting manner, making the audience interested in seeing the follow-up.
