With the operation to capture the Bulgarians already in place, Cassidy and Boone discovered key evidence, which changed the course of the investigation.

However, things took a turn when Eva delivered devastating news about Wes, which could upend Mickey's life even further.

After quitting Eva's task force in the previous episode, Mickey continued the investigation with her team in Sheriff Country Season 2 Episode 3. Cassidy and Boone discovered the source of the criminal activity at the college.

The duo discovered that a cashier at the college bookstore was distributing the drug to the kids by hiding it in the pages of a specific book. Sheriff Country Season 2 Episode 3 took a turn when Eva arrived with devastating news to Mickey: the Bulgarians had captured Wes. Just as the Bulgarians began torturing Wes, Mickey and the cavalry arrived in Sheriff Country Season 2 Episode 3. The Bulgarian captured at the bookstore was used to reach Wes' location and it looked like he would be rescued in time.

It looked like the kidnapping plotline would finally be resolved but the final moments left things on a tense cliffhanger. Mickey, Eva and the cavalry were shocked to see that the space was empty as Wes and the trafficked women were gone. While Wes had an escape plan, it was exposed to the Bulgarians, making it unlikely he escaped with the women.

This leaves only one possibility. Wes and the women were likely shifted to another location before Mickey and the cavalry arrived. While the breakthrough at the bookstore was positioned as an important clue, it turned out to be a red herring and Wes and the women remain at large, likely with the Bulgarians.

It remains to be seen how Mickey and Eva will rescue Wes and the women in the upcoming episode.
