Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden is at the center of attention as his name constantly pops up as one of the candidates set to play James Bond. British Vogue revisited a May 2022 interview with the actor this week in which the magazine discussed Lowden's chances of playing Bond. The description of this old interview read:"The years-long race to snag the part of the new 007 is nearing its end – and the Scottish actor, soon to be Mr Darcy in Netflix’s new Pride and Prejudice, is one of the frontrunners. Ahead of the casting announcement, revisit Kerry McDermott’s profile of the ‘Slow Horses’ star from British Vogue’s May 2022 issue."At the time of the interview, i.e. 2022, Slow Horses Season 2 had not yet streamed on Apple TV. However, their conversation shifted to the possibility of Lowden taking over from Daniel Craig as Bond. Moreover, Barbara Broccoli, who is still one of the co-owners of the Bond franchise, cast Lowden in the 2012 stage version of Chariots of Fire. When the Vogue reporter pointed out Lowden's experience as River, the actor had a deadpan response:“Slough House is MI5, though, not MI6 – strictly domestic.”Jack Lowden basically implied in 2022 that the Apple TV series is set strictly within the confines of the United Kingdom, unlike the James Bond film franchise, which saw the British spy travel across the world.Back in 2022, Slow Horses' Jack Lowden did acknowledge Daniel Craig's legacy: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIn the same 2022 interview, Lowden went on to discuss the impact of Daniel Craig's Bond, who played the role between 2006 and 2021. After saying that Slough House tackled domestic threats, Lowden noted that the new actor had large shoes to fill given Daniel Craig's contributions. The River Cartwright actor's exact words were:“It’s going to take a long time to get him out of my head. Or anybody else’s. Someone new will eventually slip into the Brioni tux, though… and wasn’t the best Bond Scottish?" [Referring to Sean Connery]In the same interview, Lowden discussed with the reporter that he did not consider moving to Hollywood despite visiting it a few times. Instead, it seems that he preferred to work in the UK, saying:“I’ve been over a few times, but here seems to be where it’s happening. The quality of stuff being made in the UK is just fantastic.”It remains to be seen what will happen if Lowden is indeed chosen to be the next Bond. As of now, no actor has been announced. However, we know that the Fantastic Beasts franchise actor Callum Turner is competing with Jack Lowden for the role. What about Jack Lowden's tenure as River Cartwright? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe season 6 finale (which streamed last week) ends on a cliffhanger, as we see River collapse on the floor after being poisoned. While River's poisoning is something that happens in the books, he survives this event in the source material. Slow Horses Head writer Gaby Chiappe addressed this ending in a SlashFilm interview:"We talked about it, definitely talked about it a lot, and how to make it land kind of as it does in the novel, because that is the end of 'Slough House.' Again, the breadcrumb trail back to the Novichok, I guess, is laid very lightly. So you're so shocked by what you are reading anyway, and then you're thinking, 'Wait, how did that ... oh no, no, I see.'"She continued:"It's the...' — in the book, it's a doorknob, but it's the crowbar in [the show]. I think a lot of care went into that, and I think it's kind of ... [director] Adam [Randall] has calibrated that just right. So you do think, 'Wait a minute, what's happening?' And then think, 'Oh.' Yeah, I think people will be going back to just double-check that that was what they think it was."This cliffhanger ending in the Slow Horses Season 6 finale could also give the makers a convenient way to write River out of the series, if Lowden is cast as Bond.Do you think that Slow Horses' Jack Lowden will be the new James Bond? Let us know.
