Slow Horses Season 6 has a fun little surprise for fans, with author Mick Herron making a sneaky cameo in the premiere, which is surprisingly not his first. Herron appears in a cameo role during the funeral scene of David Cartwright in Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 1. However, Herron didn't appear alone, as along with him, viewers could also see Jo Howard among the mourners.
Although this isn't Mick Herron's first cameo in Slow Horses, as he has previously appeared in the series alongside his partner in Season 4 as well. Speaking of the same, Herron told an audience at the Queen's Reading Room Festival at that time that viewers can spot him and his partner eating at a Chinese restaurant exactly thirty-one minutes into an episode of Slow Horses, joking that the scene took hours to film.
More on the story below.
Author Mick Herron cameo in Slow Horses Season 6 premiere
Earlier this week, director Adam Randall told Radio Times that the upcoming season of Slow Horses will combine two books, Joe Country and Slough House, for the first time. Both books are written by mystery and thriller novelist Mick Herron, who also makes a cameo appearance in Season 4.
His most recent cameo was in Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 1 during the funeral scene of River's grandfather, David, where Herron can be seen with the mourners.
Speaking about Episode 1, Adam Randall explained that David's death was originally filmed as a much longer standalone scene and was meant to open the episode. However, the team felt that starting with a sad moment like that and then cutting straight to the opening titles would be too heavy. Hence, they decided to tell the moment through the flashback structure instead.
Mick Herron also made a cameo in Season 4, when he and his partner showed up during a brief hotel scene, where they were seen getting a cab. That wasn't their only appearance, either. The pair have also been spotted at Jackson Lamb's favorite Chinese restaurant, which was the cameo Herron referenced when he joked about the scene taking hours to film. So, if you're the kind of viewer who catches the tiny details, you can definitely see Herron making his cameos here and there.
And Slow Horses isn't the only Apple TV+ series where Herron has made an appearance. He and his partner have also been seen in the Down Cemetery Road season finale, where they can be seen getting off a train together.
While Slow Horses has become a big hit based on Mick Herron's books, the author once admitted that he never imagined Slow Horses would come this far. When asked if he had expected where it would end up, Herron said he "didn't have a large readership" when he first wrote Slow Horses, which gave him the freedom to take risks without worrying about losing an audience.
Slow Horses Season 6 premiered on September 16 on Apple TV. The season consists of a total of six episodes and will run on a weekly release schedule, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
