While Slow Horses Season 6 is nearing its finale, the series has already given its fans a reason to look forward to Season 7. The next season will feature Doctor Who star Varada Sethu in a new role. Additionally, it will also bring back James Callis as the former MI5 chief Claude Whelan, as reported by Radio Times.
Based on Mick Herron's Slough House novels and created for television by Will Smith, famous for Veep and Slow Horses, the series stars Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, and Christopher Chung.
Last year in July, Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 7, confirming that the new season would revolve around Jackson Lamb and his team as they try to find a mole within the British government. However, the renewal announcement did not reveal any new cast members or details about who would be joining the show.
More on the story below.
Slow Horses Season 7 cast: Who is joining and who is returning?
The new cast members joining Season 7 are:
1) Varada Sethu
The Doctor Who star Varada Sethu is joining the cast in the next season. Sethu's other famous projects include Now You See Me 2, I Came By, and Strike Back.
2) Ethan Moorhouse
Ethan Moorhouse, known for Citadel, Say Nothing, MobLand, and The Power, is also joining the cast of Slow Horses Season 7.
3) Tuppence Middleton
The Forsytes star Tuppence Middleton is joining the cast alongside Moorhouse and Sethu. Her other famous works include Death by Lightning, War & Peace, and Mank.
4) Merab Ninidze
British Independent Film Awards nominee Merab Ninidze is joining the Slow Horses Season 7 cast. Ninidze's famous works include McMafia, Jupiter's Moon, Crooks, and My Happy Family. Merab Ninidze also had a small voice role in Season 6 as Vassily Rasnokov.
5) Joshua McGuire
The BAFTA Award nominee Joshua McGuire is famous for The Gold, Cheaters, Lovesick, and About Time. However, the show is keeping the details of the new cast members' characters private for now. Fans will have to wait for more updates to find out who they will be playing in Season 7.
James Callis, famous for Battlestar Galactica and Bridget Jones's Diary, is also returning as Claude Whelan, the former head of MI5. Callis left at the end of Season 5.
While James Callis did not directly discuss his exit from Slow Horses, in an interview with Nerds That Geek, he did hint that Claude Whelan had changed by the end of Season 5, saying that Claude is learning and growing, even if viewers do not notice it right away. He added that Claude is still trying, though his efforts can be frustrating for others.
Since Claude plays an important role in Mick Herron's novel Bad Actors, it makes sense that James Callis is returning for Season 7. However, Apple TV+ is yet to announce the complete cast of Slow Horses Season 7.
Slow Horses Season 7 is produced by See-Saw Films, with Ben Vanstone adapting the book for TV and Robert McKillop directing.
