Small Prophets teases Pearce Quigley's character summoning magical Homunculi spirits to predict future 

BBC's breakout comedy series, Small Prophets, is coming to Apple TV. Apple TV acquired the global rights for Small Prophets Season 1 earlier this year. The streaming platform will launch the series globally on October 7, 2026, except in the UK, where it will be available to stream from 2027. The show debuted on BBC television and BBC iPlayer in February 2026. The series is created and directed by Mackenzie Crook.

Apple TV has released a trailer for Small Prophets, which features Pearce Quigley in a leading role. Quigley plays Michael Sleep, an ordinary man whose partner, Clea, mysteriously disappeared almost seven years ago.

Michael works in a DIY store and is desperate to know what happened to his partner. Thus, when his father Brian shares an old recipe to create a potion that could create homunculi, magical spirits that can predict the future, Michael wastes no time. He teams up with the young DIY store worker, Kacey, and together they start creating the magical potion.

Small Prophets trailer breakdown: Pearce Quigley's Michael Sleep summons homunculi spirits to find his missing partner

Pearce Quigley plays Michael Sleep, an ordinary Manchester resident who works at a DIY store. Seven years after his partner, Clea, went missing, Michael is still struggling to come to terms with her absence and move on with life.

His father, Brian, tells him about homunculi, tiny prophets who live in glass jars full of water and can answer any question. Desperate to know the fate of Clea, Michael begins to research homunculi. He buys glass jars and stores them in his garden shed to conduct the magical experiment.

Kacey, Michael's co-worker at the DIY store, teams up with him, and eventually the duo forms an unlikely friendship.

However, when he has second thoughts about the experiment, Pete advises him to trust the process. His neighbors, Bev and Clive, are highly suspicious of his experiments, and as the word spreads, people ask Michael about his garden shed. At a bar, when he gets asked about it, a very drunk Michael confesses that he is trying to make homunculi.

Meanwhile, the DIY store boss Gordon becomes suspicious of Kacey and Michael's growing friendship as he asks them,

"Are you two an item?"

Kacey and Michael are quick to shut down the rumors with a blunt response.

In the next scene, Michael gently taps the glass jar, and a spirit appears inside it. Kacey is stunned as she says,

"This is mental."

Even though several hurdles and disappointments appear in the process, Michael doesn't give up. He explains he just wants to know what happened to Clea.

The cast includes Lauren Patel, Michael Palin, Paul Kaye, Jon Pointing, Mackenzie Crook, Sophie Willan, and Adam Wright, to name a few.

Crook, Lisa Thomas, Alan Marke, and Jim Reid serve as the executive producers. Gill Isles is the producer.

Small Prophets is also renewed for a second season. Speaking about Season 2, Crook told Deadline,

"The prophets have foretold that series two will be happening next year and, as we know, they are compelled to speak the truth."
