After joining Donald Trump on the campaign trail, Nicki Minaj had reportedly become the target of Saturday Night Live's Halloween episode on October 31, 2026. The episode featured a sketch of the president and the singer poking fun at Minaj's public support for Trump and satirizing her recent involvement in the campaign.

The episode revealed the president introducing Minaj to address a crowd of supporters. According to the Source, Trump joked about interrupting David S. Pumpkins's performance and remarked that both he and the Halloween character made their debut in 2016.

After watching Tom Hanks as David S. Pumpkins, viewers quickly shared their reactions on social media, with many criticizing the Trump-Minaj Halloween sketch as disjointed and overly dependent on cheap shock jokes. One viewer on X commented,

"You guys ruined a David S. Pumpkins return by turning it into politics."

While another one added,

"I don't even follow American politics, and I find this f***ing lame."

People have also mentioned that the show had nailed the president. Some said that the show's Halloween episode was funny until it became political.

SNL fans didn't like the inclusion of the Donald Trump-Nicki Minaj Halloween sketch

The Halloween episode of SNL became disappointing for the fans after it introduced Donald Trump and Nicki Minaj. According to the viewers, the show was running well after Tom Hanks took the stage as David S. Pumpkins. However, when Saidah Belo-Osagie and James Austin Johnson entered as Minaj and Trump, the viewers were disappointed. An X user named Chris Alvarez said that the president and Minaj always destroy the best things whenever they appear.

Another X user, Ron, commented that the show had ruined the return of David S. Pumpkins by turning it into politics.

However, Upson Co Dems Chairman and content creator Ryan Sinclair thought that it was the funniest thing SNL had ever shown because the show nailed the president.

According to Deadline, it has been more than 10 years since Tom Hanks first introduced the character David S. Pumpkins. Hanks first played the character in October 2016, a few weeks before Donald Trump won his first presidential election; Trump entered the White House in January 2017.

The Source revealed that Minaj's endorsement of Trump and her appearance on the campaign trail reportedly caught both fans and political observers by surprise. The SNL parody highlighted how prominent entertainment figures continue to operate in an increasingly divided political environment and gave late-night comedy shows plenty of material for election-season satire.

Why aren't SNL fans buying the Trump-Minaj Halloween sketch?

Fans who criticised the sketch largely felt that SNL disrupted the momentum of the episode and shifted attention away from Tom Hanks's popular return as David S. Pumpkins.

Many viewers described the sketch as disorganised and overly reliant on shock value and argued that a well-received Halloween segment was turned into a political parody that didn't fit the tone of the rest of the episode.

These mixed reactions suggested that the sketch divided audiences, with critics objecting to its political focus and supporters enjoying its satirical take on current events.
