The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 team confirmed the Disney+ series' release schedule at the NYCC panel this week. The previous two seasons were released in December and streamed until January, but it seems the upcoming third season is releasing a few weeks before its usual release schedule.

Moreover, the previous two seasons followed a weekly release format after dropping the first two episodes together. However, season 3 switches things up by releasing two episodes every week. Therefore, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 would start streaming on November 20, 2026, and it will finish its eight-episode run on December 11, 2026.

This new release schedule has led many fans to believe that the Disney+ Percy Jackson series deliberately avoids a clash with HBO's Harry Potter series. As one fan put it:

"Interesting. So they want to avoid competition with Harry Potter at all cost."

Fan reaction to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 release schedule explained:

The production team behind the third season confirmed a release schedule, which looks like this:

Episode NumberEpisode TitleRelease Date
1My Rescue Operation Goes Very WrongNovember 20, 2026
2An Old Dead Friend Comes to VisitNovember 20, 2026
3I Learn How to Grow ZombiesNovember 27, 2026
4We Visit the Junkyard of the GodsNovember 27, 2026
5I Have a Dam ProblemDecember 04, 2026
6I Wrestle Santa's Evil TwinDecember 04, 2026
7I Put on a Few Million Extra PoundsDecember 11, 2026
8 The Gods Vote How to Kill Us December 11, 2026

This release schedule is different from the previous two seasons, which usually went on for a month. The fan reaction to this new release strategy is the same: they seem to believe that Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 is deliberately avoiding a clash with the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone series, which also begins to air this Christmas on HBO:

Another fan also opined that the Percy Jackson series was completing its eight-episode run before the HBO Harry Potter show rolls out:

Another fan refreshingly said that they liked the new release strategy for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 without bringing up Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone:

The main reason behind a lot of negativity towards the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is its changes to the source material. Back in 2020, author Rick Riordan hyped up the series as more accurate to the books than the two movies that were released in the 2010s. However, the first two seasons are filled with changes that deviate from the plot of the book.

For example, the series has not confirmed important characters like Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Silena Beauregard, two characters who play a key role in the fifth book. These changes are why many fans are not as excited for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, as they are for the HBO Harry Potter series.

What do we know about season 3?

The third season will adapt the third book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians franchise: The Titan's Curse. If season 3 follows the plot of the third book, it would follow Percy on a quest to save Annabeth. The official logline of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 reads:

"The stakes are higher than ever before as Percy is faced with the sudden disappearance of Annabeth and the impending Great Prophecy provided by the Oracle of Delphi, dictating the fate of Olympus. As foretold by the Oracle of Delphi, one demigod child of the “Big Three” is fated to raise Olympus to new heights or bring it crashing into ruin, with their own life hanging in the balance."

As of now, Disney hasn't officially commented on the status of seasons 4 and 5. Though the franchise consists of five books, the status of seasons 4 and 5 remains unclear. However, we may learn about the future of the Disney+ Percy Jackson series soon, or around the time season 3's final episode is released on Disney+.

Season 3 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians ends its eighth episode run just two weeks before the first season of HBO's Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. While the HBO series has had its fair share of controversies, fans are looking forward to it because the Harry Potter show looks closer to the book on the surface level.

That's because the HBO show has been described as closer to the books than the eight movies that came before. Therefore, HBO is making the holiday season special because it is dropping Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone during this Christmas. As of now, HBO hasn't given a proper date, except for Christmas, but many believe that the series is releasing on December 25, 2026.

It will follow the plot of the first book, namely, Harry and his friends' first year at Hogwarts and their quest to save the Philosopher's Stone.

Do you think that this change in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 release schedule is to avoid a clash with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?
