Sons of Anarchy’s original cast is reuniting but not quite how fans might expect

Fans of Sons of Anarchy have some good news, as the original cast is getting an unexpected reunion in FX's newly ordered series, Legends. However, it is not in the way most fans might have imagined, as the meta-thriller series reunites the core group of Sons of Anarchy in a meta twist where they'll be appearing as fictional portrayals of themselves.

As per the official description, it will follow the Sons of Anarchy cast as they reunite at a fan convention after being apart for over ten years. However, their reunion does not go as smoothly as expected when they have disagreements and face a danger even greater than anything they have come across in the previous series.

The Sons of Anarchy reunion will bring back Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Kim Coates, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Ron Perlman, Theo Rossi, and Tommy Flanagan.

How is Legends bringing the Sons of Anarchy cast back together?

Sons of Anarchy premiered in 2008 and concluded in 2014 after running for seven seasons. The series starred:

• Charlie Hunnam as Jackson 'Jax' Teller
• Katey Sagal as Gemma Teller Morrow
• Kim Coates as Alexander 'Tig' Trager
• Maggie Siff as Dr. Tara Knowles
• Mark Boone Junior as Robert 'Bobby Elvis' Munson
• Ron Perlman as Clarence 'Clay' Morrow
• Theo Rossi as Juan Carlos 'Juice' Ortiz
• Tommy Flanagan as Filip 'Chibs' Telford

Their upcoming reunion in Legends is bringing back these cast members. Fans could also see more familiar faces join the cast in the upcoming updates. However, there is a twist. Instead of returning as their old characters, these cast members will play fictional versions of themselves in FX's Legends. This also makes sense, as many of the main characters died by the end of the series. Bringing them back as their old characters would not be possible given their ending, which the meta approach in the newly ordered series solves.

Speaking about the reunion and how the idea came to life, FX Entertainment president Nick Grad said that Charlie Hunnam brought the idea for Legends to FX. He said the team quickly liked Hunnam's idea and praised his work as a writer, actor, and executive producer. Grad also said the series will bring the real-life cast together for an adventure that honors the previous series while giving fans a new and fun meta take on the show.

Additionally, Hunnam will also be one of the main stars of the series, making him an important part of the project. Hunnam is also working on Legacy of Spies as an executive producer and actor. Fans will also see him in Criminal, where he will appear as Leo Patterson.

Sons of Anarchy was created by Primetime Emmy nominee Kurt Sutter (famous for The Shield and Southpaw), and Legends is created by Charlie Hunnam (famous for Monster and Last Looks). He is also serving as an executive producer alongside Jonathan Groff, Jackie Cohn, Rob Mac, and Nicholas Frenkel. Kurt Sutter is not a part of the series.

As of now, the series does not have a release date, with filming yet to start. The limited series will be available to stream on both FX and Hulu after its release.
