Sounds of Winter episode 2 recap: Entry of the new character, Wachi

Sounds of Winter episode 2 introduces viewers to a new character, Wachi. Wachi is a close friend of Ayana, who works in the coffee shop. He asks Ayana if she plans to take a leave on Christmas, and she says yes, adding that she wants to spend time with her boyfriend.
Later, Wachi reveals to Ayana that his girlfriend, Yuki, has broken up with him and told him that she likes someone else. Ayana was shocked to hear this and asked further questions. Wachi tells her that her girlfriend is not currently dating the other man, but they did spend Christmas together.
He asks Ayana what she would do if she were in the same situation. Ayana replies that she doesn't know, which makes Wachi a little annoyed. He asks if she thinks that she won't get dumped by her boyfriend, and Ayana says yes. Wachi gets mad at her for having an upper hand in the relationship and dating Yukio just because he likes her and is a good person.
Though Wachi adds that he is just envious of her. Ayana stays silent and asks Wachi how much he knows about their relationship.
Wachi replies that he doesn't know much. Ayana advises him to stop assuming she has an upper hand and not talk about it either.
Saiki Yukio takes the next step with Ayana

As told to Wachi, Ayana takes a leave on Christmas and goes chair shopping with her boyfriend, Yukio. She later goes for dinner, where he gives her earrings as a present.
Till now, Yukio and Ayana were living separately, with Ayana visiting his home from time to time. He proposes to Ayana to live together. However, he didn't want to force his decision and gave her time to think and reply.
At this point, Ayana is facing trouble with writing her book, and she also tells this to the person who edits her book. Ayana is writing about a character named Kozue, who feels romantically involved but doesn't like being physically involved in a relationship. Ayana admits that the character is based on her friend and adds that she feels envious of her because her friend is able to fall in love more easily and also admires her genuineness at the same time.
Her editor tells her that she should show Kozue more like she actually is and through the details she knows of her, which will give her character depth.
Kotaro draws the line with Ayana

Ayana meets Kotaro to lift her mood. Although Kotaro is unsure how to express what he is feeling, Ayana guesses that his girlfriend has broken up with him, which turns out to be true. Kotaro, in the previous episode, wanted to propose to Ayana but didn't after coming to know that she has a boyfriend.
Kotaro admits that being dumped by his girlfriend just shook him up. Ayana and he go to a hotel later, where Ayana asks whether he wants to get close to her. But Kotaro says no.
He admits to being upset after coming to know that Ayana got a boyfriend, as he had known her for a long time, and Yukio just came out of nowhere and started a relationship. However, after he found a girlfriend himself, he realized that Ayana was not special and he had simply made her seem that way in his mind.
The Sounds of Winter episode 2 ends with Ayana feeling a void, thinking that void is because of loneliness. She also realizes at the same time that she only loves herself.
