The opening ceremony turns chaotic while Ron comes across an unexpected crisis in St. Denis Medical Season 2 Episode 17
Episode 17 of St. Denis Medical Season 2 starts with Joyce being extremely happy that the hospital’s birthing center is coming to life. She talks about the name of the birthing center, which was initially set to be Irving Women’s Birthing Center. However, the name had to be changed as Amelia Irving’s ex-husband got into “some mischief”.
Joyce urged Amelia to use her maiden name, which is Amelia White. Hence, now the name of the birthing center has become “The White Women’s Birthing Center”. This episode of St. Denis Medical Season 2 continues with the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the birthing center. Joyce is extremely happy with the preparation. She also prepared a huge number of seats for the visitors and even reserved seats for media houses.
On the other hand, Serena and Matt help set up the location for the ceremony. Matt tries to ask Serena about her dynamic with Steve. She informs him that she is over him, even though Steve sends her gym selfies. This episode takes a hilarious turn with Ron. Ron waits for them to get the annual physical exam, which helps him to keep the insurance.
He is not happy that the date for the check-up fell on the same day on which he was supposed to go on a fishing trip. He also adds that the fishing trip was initially scheduled for 2010, but it is happening this year, as it is difficult to set a plan with 70-year-olds.
Right at that moment, Bruce gets called for the physical examination. Ron interrupts and tells the doctor that he will also be taking the examination with Bruce as they are "best friends" and do everything together, which is just a tactic he tries to implement to finish the examination early so that he can go fishing.
This episode of St. Denis Medical Season 2 continues with the birthing center opening ceremony becoming a success. Many visitors arrive, which makes Joyce extremely happy. She then tells Alex and Val that she will be singing with the choir. Both Alex and Val are quite surprised by Joyce’s words. They are completely taken aback when the choir starts to sing.
They sing in a melodious manner, which gains the appreciation of the audience right away. However, things take a turn when Joyce comes out and starts singing. She falls down and gets injured. Alex decides to do damage control for the ceremony, as the couple who were supposed to come already had their baby that morning. Alex tells Matt and Serena to pretend to be the pregnant couple for the event.
Alex goes out to speak to the visitors while Matt and Serena share about their decision to choose this birthing center for their baby while pretending to be a couple and doing a great job. Ron and Bruce’s reports arrive. It is revealed that Ron’s blood pressure is just a “teensy bit high,” and he will need to do an echocardiogram.
Ron is not happy, as the echocardiogram will take an hour, and he will miss the fishing trip. The doctor refuses to let Ron go and informs him that his blood pressure has increased further. This episode of St. Denis Medical Season 2 continues with Joyce having an emotional breakdown because of her situation. She voices her disappointment about not being able to get the recognition she deserves. However, as she dropped the microphone angrily on the floor, it switched on, causing every visitor of the birthing center to hear her.
This episode of St. Denis Medical Season 2 continues with Dr. Emerson, a cardiothoracic surgeon, arriving to speak with Ron about his test results. The doctor informs him that there are multivessel coronary blockages, which are about 90%. He will need a triple bypass surgery to fix the issue. This episode ends with Alex being asked to cut the ribbon for the birthing center.
Instead of cutting it right away, she speaks about the sacrifices that Joyce made to bring the birthing center to life. Before Alex is able to call Joyce, Joyce runs to find Ron after she gets a message from Bruce about the surgery. Joyce shows Ron the video of her falling off the stage to make him happy.
At the very end of this episode, Matt and Serena have a heartwarming moment. Right after discussing the photographer who was urging them to kiss for a photo, Matt tells Serena that they should kiss only when they want to. They then share a heartfelt kiss. The stage is now set for their dynamic to change in the upcoming episodes of the St. Denis Medical Season 2.
