Star City finale recap and ending explained: Valya’s tragedy and Nikulov’s destructive confession

Star City finale brings forth an unexpected turn of events for Valya and the team. After the turn of events in the previous episode of the series, Valya’s fate was hanging by a thread. Star City finale brings forth a heartbreaking ending to the storyline.

The manner in which the emotional turmoil of the characters is depicted resonates deeply with the viewers. The Chief Designer and Nikulov’s actions in this episode of the series also play a vital role in depicting the nuances of his character.

Valya’s tragedy and Nikulov’s destructive confession in Star City finale and ending

Star City finale starts with Lakshmi speaking about her family to Sasha; however, Sasha is not eager to listen to any of her stories. Sasha tells Lakshmi that she will only hurt herself. Lakshmi, on the other hand, points out that Sasha’s actions of sending the code will also not make any difference in their situation unless there is a way to fix the comm systems.

Slowly, this episode unveils the tragic situation that they come across. It is revealed that the fire that broke out was controlled and stopped. It caused the trajectory of Venera to change completely. The situation caused Sasha to get extremely angry at Valya. He tries to strangle him, but in the end stops. On the other hand, the Chief Designer is informed by Sergei Nikulov that their team is alive.

The Chief Designer is extremely happy and begins to plan to help them get away from the danger. He knows that if they land in the Soviet Union, they will be captured right away for their actions. Nikulov understands the situation and speaks to Andrewi Stepanov so that they can manage to help Sasha and the team. Further details of the situation after the fire are unveiled as Valya informs them that they will miss Venus and will not be able to return to Earth.

Star City finale continues with Anastasia receiving a signal, which she then sends to Valya’s tea, telling them that the Chief Designer is aware that they are coming back. The signal also informs Sasha and Lakshmi that landing in the Soviet Union is not safe for them; hence, they should land in Finland. Right at that moment, Sasha gets a transmission and hears Anastasia’s voice.

Anastasia and Sasha share a heartwarming moment as they are both aware of the danger that they are about to face. Star City finale continues with Sasha and Lakshmi beginning to work on their plan. While Lakhsmi and Sasha speak about their families, Valya begins to listen to them. It can be understood that he is impacted by the turn of events. Things take a turn when Valya informs them that there is a way that they can use Venus to turn them back towards Earth.

Though Venera does not have the fuel, the bathysphere can be used. If the engine is fired on the probe, enough force can be achieved to change the trajectory. However, the only issue with the plan is that the bathysphere engine is designed to fire automatically once it is undocked. Hence, to manually fire the engine ahead of time, one would have to be in the bathysphere. Hence, they would not be able to return. It is a “one way trip to Venus.”

Before Sasha and Lakshmi are able to stop Valya, he gets inside the bathysphere and locks. Valya urges Sasha to find Tanya and make sure that she is alright. Sasha promises Valya and watches him enter the bathysphere. Star City finale continues with the information of the change of trajectory getting in the hands of Lyudmilla, causing Nikulov to get arrested.

Nikulov is then taken to the Chief Designer’s house, where Irina waits for him. When he enters the house, he finds that the Chief Designer is being beaten while Lyudmilla watches. To stop Lyudmilla’s men from killing the Chief Designer, Nikulov reveals the truth about the change in the landing site. When Nikulov refuses to tell the exact location of the landing site, Lyudmilla points a gun at the Chief Designer, causing Nikulov to reveal the information about Finland.

Star City finale continues with the bathysphere getting separated from Venra, which causes Venera’s trajectory to change towards Earth. The bathysphere moves towards Venus with Valya inside as Sasha and Lakshmi watch. At the end of this episode, Nikulov comes across a shocking truth. After leaving the Chief Designer’s house, he is taken to a vehicle. The moment he enters the vehicle, the Chief Designer speaks to him.

Nikulov realizes that the man in the house was not the Chief Designer, and he has been tricked into revealing the truth by Lryudmilla. The Chief Designer consoles Nikulov and tells him about the success of their plan to send human beings to Venus. On the other hand, the authorities prepare to capture Sahsa and Lakshmi after they land. Lakshmi and Sasha begin to land on Earth and change their course to Finland.

However, things take a turn when they are hit by a missile. This causes them to land in the Soviet Union. Right after Sasha understands the situation, he begins to escape. To protect Sasha from the danger, Anastasia uses the emergency capsule to land near the location where Sasha landed so that she can help him. She lands before Lyudmilla is able to capture Sasha. She takes the truck from an old couple and rushes towards Sasha’s direction.

Things take a turn when Lakshmi gets shot. Right at that moment, Anastasia arrives and surrenders in front of Lyudmilla, causing her to get captured. However, Sasha, watching Anastasia get captured, decides to stay back while Lakshmi is able to cross the border and get to safety. Valya’s tragic fate at the end of Star City finale episode also leaves an impact. The bathysphere lands on Venus, and he becomes the first one to do so.

However, the pressure on the planet is too much for the bathysphere, causing it to crush within a few moments. Though before it crashes, Valya is able to enjoy his last few moments watching the planet with Tanya’s photo in his hand. Snippets of Tanya’s life are also shown at the end of Star City finale. Tanya lives in Paris and is happy with the life that she has.

However, she is not able to escape Lyudmilla’s watchful eyes even in Paris. The ending of this episode leaves a lasting impact, especially in depicting the struggles of the characters and the choices that they make. From Valya’s eventual sacrifice to Sasha’s decision to stay back to be closer to Anastasia, each and every aspect of this episode is depicted in a nuanced manner.
