Danger looms over Klingon species in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4
Starfleet Academy on Earth is trying to build the galaxy with the Federation and there is a new class of cadets, who are eager to play their part. Jay-Den Kraag is a rare Klingon cadet who wishes to be a healer than a warrior like the others in his species. He is the only Klingon in the Academy.
In the 32nd century, Klingon species find themselves struggling. After The Burn, Klingon sought refuge in other worlds and their species started fading fast. Being the proud warriors they are, Klingons refused any kind of generosity shown from other species including the Federation. But it was only a matter of time they cease to exist and Federation is aware of this.
The Federation has long grappled with its uneasy history with the Klingon Empire. In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4, The Doctor takes the stage to debate the topic with the cadets. Should the Federation help Klingons, even when they are vehemently stubborn against accepting charity. As per the Prime Directive, Federation cannot hamper with pre-warp civilizations. Jay-Den argues that Federation cannot force their ideology onto Klingons, who have the choice to either take help and survive, or perish.
Jay-Den’s unconventional move to save the Klingons takes shape in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4
A ship that was carrying eight Klingon houses has crashed while on their way to a refugee camp. The unresolved fate of the Kraag family also casts a shadow over the situation. Through flashbacks in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4, the audience learn about Jay-Den’s older brother Thar, who had encouraged him to pursue his ambition to be a healer, despite it being unheard of in their species.
Later however, Thar will succumb to grave injury as he hopes that his brother will achieve his dreams. Jay-Den’s parents were against him joining the Federation. When he refuses to make a kill, his father will abandon him. Later, Lura Thok will explain to Jay-Den that his father did not leave him to fend for himself, instead he wanted him to let go of his Klingon roots to embrace life at the Starfleet Academy.
Things on USS Athena is serious as they try to push Klingon into accepting a Faal Alpha as their homeworld, a replacement for Qo’nos. But Klingons stand their stubborn grounds.
Meanwhile in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4, the Doctor will continue the debate. Caleb will effectively point out that the Federation should ensure that the Klingons survive, whether it will have a negative effect on them or not. However, it is Jay-Den who finally comes up with an idea that will ensure that the Klingons will accept the new homeworld. Jay-Den, who has now made peace with his past, will insist that they are looking at it from the Federation viewpoint and they should in fact approach the subject from Klingon’s perspective.
The Federation must pretend to fight for Faal Alpha and suggest that Klingons have conquered it illegitimately. The Klingon fleet will be labeled as intruders in Federation space. Captain Ake will put out red alert and stage a battle. Federation will surrender and let Klingon take over the new world.
It is theatrical of course, but Klingons will only accept the new world through their own intervention that uplifts their honor code. As the curtains come down on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Episode 4, Jay-Den learns that his parents are doing fine. Caleb and Jay-Den also make up their differences. The Federation leadership firmly stand by the story, which helps save the future of Klingon Empire.
