Blue Bloods alum Will Estes reprised his role as Jamie Reagan, Danny's younger brother, in Boston Blue Season 2 Episode 5. In an interview with TV Insider, Estes revealed that he was terrified to return to the world of Blue Bloods alongside Donnie Wahlberg's Danny. He also added that he would absolutely love to return to Boston Blue again despite being terrified before filming. Estes added:

"Sure. 100%."

Estes told TV Insider that his return did resolve the conflict between his and Wahlberg's characters that was left as a cliffhanger in Blue Bloods, which wrapped up in December 2024 after 14 seasons. Estes added that the show creators were able to honour the Blue Bloods legacy and keep the plot intact. He said:

"I didn’t want to change anything. We just fell right in and hit the ground running."

Blue Bloods alum Will Estes reprised his role as Jamie Reagan in Boston Blue Season 2. Titled Blood Diamonds, in this episode, Jamie visited Boston for a lieutenant conference. However, Jamie's reunion with Danny took an unexpected turn as their long-standing differences resurfaced, leading to an emotionally charged conversation. Jamie revealed that he was not happy with Danny leaving New York and moving to Boston.

Danny shared that Sean needed him and he had to take the step. In the episode, the Reagan brothers solved their differences amid a high-stakes diamond heist case. The case led to a scuffle on a roof involving an explosive that Jamie was able to throw off. The Reagan siblings confessed how much they admired and loved each other. The episode also revealed that Jamie was promoted to lieutenant in the NYPD, which meant he outranked his older brother Danny.

Estes told TV Insider that the conflict between the Reagan siblings felt genuine, adding that the tension was a great 'progression' and 'evolution'. Estes added that Danny and Jamie finally opened up to each other in a way they never had.

Estes added that he learned his character, Jamie, had a baby while reading the script, a week before filming. He said:

"As an actor, sometimes you’re the last one to know. Everyone thinks you’re the first, but you’re kind of the last sometimes."

Estes told TV Insider that he was terrified to reprise his Blue Bloods role for Boston Blue since he felt out of touch with the character. However, once he shot the first scene, it was an easy ride. Estes shared that sleepless nights, running the lines constantly, and some dark chocolate helped him to get back to his role.

"In this episode, it feels like there’s a lot of resolution with the conflict between Jamie and Danny. It was a stone left unturned on Blue Bloods, so to do it now was so cool."
