Swipe Right on the Devil: Investigators found a dark cult connection with Sydney's death

Bailey's social media accounts marked the start of a disturbing investigation. Swipe Right on the Devil revealed that Bailey was in a relationship with Aubrey Trail, a 51-year-old man who called himself a vampire. Reports revealed that the two lived together in an apartment and both had long criminal records that included theft and financial fraud in several states.
Sydney became one of the many victims they targeted through Tinder. Bailey and Aubrey tried to lure people into their improvised 'coven' built around a cult-like manifesto. Both claimed that they were involved in witchcraft and black magic, which needed violent rituals to join their coven.
Aubrey revealed that he told the coven members to torture some people and carry out a killing so that he could gain more power as their chosen leader. Aubrey also planned to record the murder, sell the clip as a snuff film, and even promised to share the profits with everyone in the group.
Aubrey told investigators that he had taken part in consensual BDSM acts with Sydney and two other women. He even claimed that the participants paid him $15,000 to be filmed. Aubrey confessed that he strangled Sydney with an extension cord and described his act as erotic. However, he said that he didn't intend to kill her. After her death, Aubrey dismembered Sydney's body in an attempt to avoid being caught.
Swipe Right on the Devil: Current status of Bailey and Aubrey
People Magazine reported that during Bailey’s 2020 trial, Kaitlyn Brandle, a victim of cult practices, testified in court that Bailey and Aubrey had serious talks about a possible killing in the days after Sydney went missing and revealed that they pressed her to take part.
On November 30, 2017, the police tracked down Bailey and Aubrey at a hotel in Branson, Missouri, and took them into custody on fraud charges connected to their crimes involving antiques.
Bailey faced the death penalty but in court she said that Aubrey had manipulated and controlled her. Bailey pleaded for her life for the sake of her young daughter, who is being raised by her mother. In November 2021, Bailey was sentenced to life in prison for murdering Sydney, mutilating her body, and conspiring to commit murder. She is now serving her sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, Nebraska.
In June 2021, Aubrey was sentenced to death for Sydney's murder and in August 2023, he gave up his appeals against the death penalty and asked for an execution date. However, Nebraska did not have the drugs needed for lethal injection. Aubrey is now on death row at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in Nebraska.
