Channel 5's dramedy All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 is heading towards its series finale on PBS Masterpiece. The finale, or the Christmas special episode titled 'Comfort and Joy,' will release on February 22, 2026, at 9 PM ET. But before the finale episode rolls out, here's a season recap.

Season 6 took a four-year leap from the previous installment and is set in May 1945. Tristan is finally back from Sicily. The Herriots are now a family of four: James, Helen, Jimmy, and his adorable sister, little Rosie. They now stay at the Alderson farm with Helen's father Richard and Jenny.

With Mrs. Hall in Sunderland, Siegfried and Skeldale House are a total mess. Siegfried survives on canned tuna and has developed a habit of forgetting things. However, after Mrs. Hall returns when Tristan and James plead with her to do so, Skeldale House becomes lively once again. Siegfried's habit of pushing away people who care for him ruins things. Mrs. Hall feels undervalued, and she has made up her mind to leave Skeldale House once again.

Here's what happened next in All Creatures Great and Small Season 6.

In All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 Episode 1, Siegfried realizes that his behaviour towards Mrs. Hall wasn't pleasant, and he decides to apologize to her. When he finds out that she's gone to catch a train, he hurries off in his Rover. At the station, Siegfried confesses that he is afraid of losing Mrs. Hall and stops her from boarding the train. They hug after they learn that the war is over.

Mrs. Hall isn't just the housekeeper; she is the only one who truly understands Siegfried and holds Skeldale House together.

The friendship and trust between them are quite refreshing. By the end of the season, Siegfried realizes that no matter what the problem is, Mrs. Hall is the solution. She is his go-to person. In Episode 6, when Tristan goes missing, Mrs. Hall accompanies Siegfried to the church. She urges Tristan to talk to Siegfried. Tristan finally opens up about his war traumas to Siegfried. At the end of the episode, Siegfried tells Mrs. Hall,

"I'll always need you Mrs. Hall."

An awkward silence follows, and it seems like both of them are trying to suppress their true feelings. Is romance brewing between the two? Maybe or maybe not, but one thing's sure, Siegfried needs Mrs. Hall and vice versa.

Since Tristan returned from Sicily, he seemed lost on several occasions, especially during the times he was left alone. He even hid his Military Cross. Even though he found love this season, there was something that was bothering him. Thus, when VJ Day was announced, he didn't celebrate and was not in his room the next morning.

When Siegfried finally found him, he urged him to open up. Tristan revealed how his military buddy, Billy, lost his life during a landmine attack. Billy alerted Tristan about the mines. In All Creatures Great and Small Season 6, Tristan finally finds love. He falls in love with Charlotte Beauvoir, played by Gaia Wise. Charlotte, General Beauvoir's daughter, calls for Captain Farnon when her horse Philbrick falls sick. It's hilarious to see both the Farnon brothers fighting to lead the case. It turns out Tristan misunderstood Siegfried. He thought Siegfried developed feelings for Charlotte when, in reality, he wanted to secure the business.

The Beauvoirs were aristocrats. The Farnon brothers successfully treated Philbrick. Eventually, Charlotte and Tristan fell in love. It turns out Charlotte was also in Sicily; she served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. Even though General Beauvoir didn't approve of Tristan initially, he finally chose his daughter's happiness. He knew Charlotte would be truly happy with Tristan.

We also get a few glimpses of Tristan and Maggie, the barmaid at the Drovers, catching up. However, Episode 5 ends with heartbreaking news: Maggie's husband, Arthur, died in Burma. Maggie breaks down after she receives the fateful letter. However, she manages to deal with grief quite well. She helps Charlotte during the VJ Day celebrations.

In All Creatures Great and Small Season 6, Jenny Alderson, Helen's sister, leaves for nursing college in London. Helen, initially hesitant about Jenny's big move, finally agrees. Jenny asks Helen to come to London to help her settle down. Helen agrees and takes little Rosie along. It's heartwarming to see Jenny building a path of her own beyond Darrowby's rural life.

Jimmy is now James's little vet assistant. James calls him Watson. In fact, his eagerness, curiosity, and keen observation help Richard and James find a newborn calf at the Alderson farm. Because of Jimmy, Siegfried realizes that on several occasions he has been selfish and decides to apologize to Helen.

James, Tristan, and Siegfried help several local animals throughout Season 6. Each story helps them realize certain things. From Mrs. Pumphrey's Tricki Woo, Ms. Stokes' Hilda, the Ainsleys' parrot George, Sister Rose's Geoffrey, and Elijah Wentworth's shire horse, each case taught them an important lesson.

Episode 6 ends with VJ Day celebrations, and Tristan lights up the wooden pyre. The war is finally over, and Darrowby will celebrate its first post-war Christmas in the season finale.
