The American Experiment: Every interview featured in the upcoming docuseries 

Can people govern themselves? This is the radical question posed at the heart of Netflix's upcoming five-part historical docuseries, The American Experiment. The Turning Point director Brian Knappenberger returns with another project just as the US approaches its 250th anniversary.

In an interview with Netflix's Tudum, Netflix’s Vice President of Documentary, Adam Del Deo, described the upcoming docu-series as:

“The approaching 250th anniversary of the United States offers a distinct opportunity to reflect on America’s founding and its future. The American Experiment presents an expansive dialogue about how American democracy has been built, challenged, and reimagined over nearly two and a half centuries.''

The docu-series will feature reenactments (including Martin Sheen as George Washington) and interviews with important political figures such as former Vice Presidents of the US (Mike Pence, AL Gore), cabinet officials, current and former members of Congress, tribal chiefs, military experts and many more.

The American Experiment revisits America's untested idea of democracy, which has continued to flourish and been reimagined over the course of two and a half centuries.

Every former Vice President featured in The American Experiment

1) Mike Pence- the 48th Vice President of the United States

The American politician, member of the Republican Party and the 48th vice president of the United States (from 2017 to 2021) under President Donald Trump, is the first big name to be featured in The American Experiment. Mike Pence emerges as one of the most influential voices in the recently released trailer, expressing his views about the original revolutionaries.

Pence refers to the defining moment in American history when the revolutionaries decided to revolt against the 'tyranny of monarchy'.

2) Al Gore- 45th Vice President of the United States

The American politician, businessman and the 45th vice president of the United States (from 1993 to 2001) under President Bill Clinton is the next personality to be featured in The American Experiment. A member of the Democratic Party, Gore was vocal about his interest in reducing fraud and abuse in the federal government and trimming the size of the bureaucracy.

Gore’s voice is expected to play a key role in the upcoming docuseries, helping the filmmakers explore and contextualize America’s evolution into a democracy.

3) Kamala Harris- 49th Vice President of the United States

The American politician who served as the 49th vice president (from 2021 to 2025) under President Joe Biden is another important political figure to be featured in The American Experiment. Harris created history as the first female, first Asian American vice president and the highest-ranking female and Asian public official in U.S. history.

Her strong female voice is poised to be one of the defining aspects of the upcoming docuseries, highlighting the country's progress through the lens of women's experiences and contributions.
