The Boroughs Episode 1 recap: Sam struggles to adjust in the retirement community

Sam appears visibly upset, and he rips the radio from the wall. Viewers learn that the late wife was the one who wanted to move there. Neil gifts Sam a golf cart, but that gesture does not improve his mood.
After saying goodbye to his family, Sam begins to unpack his belongings. When he turns on the television, he watches the introductory speech of The Borough's CEO, Blaine Shaw, and his partner, Anneliese. He is interrupted by Jack, a friendly neighbour who brings him some beer bottles and invites him to a barbecue.
That night, Sam dreams about his wife, Lily. He wakes up hearing Renne's car noise and Art's loud music. Art's wife, Judy, becomes curious about Sam and his late wife. Sam finds it quite difficult to adjust, and he drives the golf cart to the CEO's house to get out of his contract. The music triggers him, and he goes into a flashback again.
Sam gets a flashback of his late wife Lily
In the flashback, Sam argues with his wife, Lily. Lily pulls him to dance to stop the argument. However, while dancing, she collapses. Sam goes back to his house and watches an old movie when he once again hears Renne's car noise. He offers to fix the car's engine. Renne thanks Sam for helping her.
Sam goes to the bathroom, but becomes startled by a strange noise. When he comes out, he finds Edward stabbing at the wall, looking for an owl. He insists that the owl has taken Grace. Edward stabs Sam's arm, and he is eventually taken away.
Sam encounters the monster in Jack's home

Sam then finally meets Blaine at the Manor. Blaine apologizes to Sam for not aiding him. He brings the documents to end the contract. Turns out, Edward wants to apologize to him for attacking him. Blaine reveals that Edward has a neurological condition called Maxwell, which has no cure. Blaine asks Sam to stay back at the Boroughs.
Later that evening, Sam attends Jack's barbecue party. Sam meets Wally, a neighbour battling prostate cancer. At the gathering, the neighbors slowly start to open up more about their lives and their deteriorating health conditions.
Sam adds how his retina is deteriorating, and that he no longer has a driver's license. Sam again immerses deep in thoughts about his wife after he sees Judy choking. He rushes to his home mid-party.
Back at home, he goes through the contract and informs Blaine that he has decided to stay back. Later at night, he hears an alarm. He follows the noise and arrives at Jack's house. He breaks the window and rushes inside, only to discover the monster attacking Jack. As he moves towards it, the monster jumps on him before escaping within seconds.
