The Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof is teaming up with HBO for a limited series titled The Chain. The upcoming crime-thriller limited series is based on Adrian McKinty’s eponymous 2019 novel, which won the International Thriller Writers Award for Best Hardcover Novel and Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award in 2020.The Chain, which has received a straight-to-series order from HBO, falls under Lindelof's two-year deal with the cabler that began in September 2025.In a statement to Variety, Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, announced the upcoming limited series as:“We are honored by our continued partnership with Damon Lindelof, one of the most singular and distinctive creators of our time. The official tagline for McKinty's novel reads, ''The only way to get your child back is to kidnap another child.''McKinty's novel follows a single mother (Rachel) undergoing cancer treatment, whose daughter is kidnapped one day. The kidnappers instruct Rachel that the only way to get her daughter back is to kidnap another child for them and pay ransom.
