The Early Spring has finally come to a close, and honestly, what a ride it’s been. This is one of those C-dramas that could completely frustrate you with the characters in one scene and then make you want to see them get back together as a couple in the very next.
Fans were constantly left wondering who between Luan Nian, aka Luke, and Shang Zhi Tao, aka Flora, was the bigger red flag. Just when you thought you had one of them figured out, the story would give you another reason to change your mind. And then, their misunderstandings made things even more chaotic.
But at the end of The Early Spring, Luan Nian proposed to Shang Zhi Tao, and she finally said yes to him. The couple cleared all their misunderstandings and admitted to their mistakes. Luke even realized he was harsh with his girlfriend a lot of times, while Flora realized that her life was incomplete without him.
The story in this C-drama was undoubtedly about two flawed people falling in love and facing difficulties together. And I guess this is what made the journey so memorable for fans.

The Early Spring finale recap: The painful breakup between Luan Nian and Shang Zhi Tao

The remaining episodes of The Early Spring are now out on the Youku Express Package. But fans who are still watching through the VIP plan or streaming the C-drama on Netflix, might want to skip this one for now because this article is packed with spoilers!
So, Episode 21 of The Early Spring began with Flora and all her colleagues excited for her to receive the specialist title of the year at Lime. Even Luke is proud of her and wants her to keep growing in the company.
And just when it looked like Flora had almost achieved a milestone, Tracy learned about Luke and Flora's relationship. A whistleblower sent the couple's pictures to her, and according to the company rules, colleagues could not date each other and take advantage of their positions.
Even though Flora worked hard and never took advantage of her boyfriend being the general manager, they broke the rules. As a result, Tracy couldn't secure the specialist's title for her.
Luke tried everything, but Tracy was also helpless. Later on the day of the event, a new employee was announced as the specialist of the year, leaving Shang Zhi Tao heartbroken. She broke down in front of Luke, accusing him of not giving her enough points to win the title.
The couple argued, and Flora said that Luke never really cared and that he had always been biased towards her. Her words cut deep when she said she wants to end the "filthy and disgusting" relationship between them.
At the same time, Luke told her to calm down, but he couldn't exactly stop himself from adding fuel to the fire either. Later in The Early Spring, Shang Zhi Tao packed her things and took Luke (their pet dog) from Luan Nian's house.
The same evening, Tao learned that her father had fallen from the stairs and injured his leg. So the next day, Shang Zhi Tao decided to resign from Lime and leave without saying a word to Luan Nian.
She said goodbye to all her friends, including Lumi and Sun Yu, and promised to contact them soon. This way, the heartbroken Shang Zhi Tao returned to her home in Harbin.

The Early Spring finale recap: Luan Nian starts yearning while Shang Zhi Tao builds a new life in Harbin

The story continued in Episode 22 of The Early Spring as Luke came to know about Flora's resignation. The fear and pain were clear in his eyes, as he couldn't even see his woman before she left.
At the same time, he decided to take up another position for Lime in the U.S., but Flora's departure left him heartbroken. Tracy also mentioned that a friend of Shang Zhi Tao had probably died, and then he realized that it was none other than Sun Yuanzhu.
He realized that the friend Shang Zhi Tao mentioned during the break was Yuanzhu, who wasn't just a flatmate or a close friend but also family to her. Luan Nian felt empty and started yearning for Shang Zhi Tao.
He searched for her and found out that she had moved back to Harbin. On the other hand, Tao tells her parents that she was tired of Beijing and Nanjing and now wishes to start her own business near home.
Her parents looked concerned, but they decided to trust their daughter. As The Early Spring episode continued, Luan Nian was seen sitting all alone during the Chinese New Year, thinking about Shang Zhi Tao and the moments they spent together.
He finally got to see the aurora, the very sight he and Tao had once planned to experience together. Drunk and heartbroken, Luan Nian called Tao’s old number even though he knew it was no longer in service.
Still, he spoke as if she was there, telling her that he could finally see the aurora they had once dreamed of seeing together. Tears kept falling as he broke down and apologized to her. He was sorry for everything he said and everything he did that hurt her.
At that moment, all the things he had held inside seemed to come pouring out. And while Luan Nian was left yearning for Tao, his friends could only watch helplessly, unable to find a way to comfort him or ease his pain.
The story in The Early Spring finale episodes moved forward, and we saw Shang Zhi Tao opening her very own event planning company in Harbin. She began with a startup, hired a few talented people, and proved that she could be a boss now.
But deep down, Shang Zhi Tao missed Luan Nian too. She visited places all alone, thought about the man she dated, and admitted that forgetting him had been the biggest challenge for her so far.
The Early Spring finale recap: Shang Zhi Tao's collaboration with Lime and an honest conversation with Luan Nian

The emotional plot continued in The Early Spring as Shang Zhi Tao and Luan Nian still miss each other. But thanks to Lumi, who found a project for Lime that could be completed in collaboration with Tao's startup.
Luke joins Lumi in this project, just as she wanted, and the two take off to Harbin to meet the boss lady. However, Shang Zhi Tao couldn't immediately show up, as she was busy planning the event for Lime.
But when she finally saw Luan Nian in The Early Spring, she maintained distance from him. Despite that, Luan Nian decided that he wouldn't return to Beijing until he set things right and talked to Shang Zhi Tao.
After his repeated attempts to reach her, Tao finally opened up to him. She explained that she never said goodbye back then because she was afraid Luan Nian would say something that would hurt her even more.
She was already emotionally exhausted, but despite everything that had happened between them, she still wished the best for him and hoped that he would be happy. The emotional conversation continued in The Early Spring, and Luan Nian told her that he gave her the highest score for securing the specialist title.
In fact, he also got to know about the new female employee with strong connections, receiving the title from Tracy. Luan Nian tried everything but couldn't get her the title. As he saw Tao crying, he pulled her closer and hugged her tightly.
Luan Nian then meets the dog, Luke, at Tao's house and promises to meet him very soon. This way, he started pursuing his woman once again and even meets Tao's parents when they suddenly show up at her place.
The Early Spring ending explained: Luan Nian wins Shang Zhi Tao back and proposes

After yearning for her for so long in The Early Spring, Luan Nian finally won Shang Zhi Tao back. But before making his big move, he first helped her connect with better clients. Then, he went straight to her office and asked if he could join her company as a rookie.
Just like Shang Zhi Tao was once a rookie under Luke in The Early Spring, Luan Nian was now willing to start from the beginning with her. This surprised Tao, and she even told him that she wouldn't be able to pay him millions since this was still just a startup.
But Luan Nian didn't care about the money. He told her that nothing mattered to him as long as he could be part of her business. Shang Zhi Tao agreed and even put him in charge of being her driver. It became one of the most memorable moments in The Early Spring, as Luan Nian finally showed just how much he had changed.
The couple then introduced each other to their families and began a passionate new chapter together. Before the C-drama came to an end, Lumi called Shang Zhi Tao and invited her to Lime to share her experience as one of their event partners.
Tao agreed and headed back to Beijing with Luan Nian. She was welcomed warmly by all her former colleagues, and this time, there was no need for the two of them to keep their relationship private.
Near the end of The Early Spring, Luan Nian prepared a little museum for Shang Zhi Tao, filled with pictures from the beginning of her journey to where she had reached through her own determination. As she took it all in and became overwhelmed by the moment, Luan Nian took out a ring and proposed to her.
The moment became even more special with all their loved ones there to witness it. As Luan Nian knelt in front of her, how could Shang Zhi Tao say no? She accepted his marriage proposal, and the two finally began a new life together.
