The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare reveals the real reason the first 911 call left out key details

The 3-episode true crime docuseries The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare was released a week ago exclusively on Netflix. The docuseries revisits the shocking death of four University of Idaho students inside their off-campus home in 2022. During the murder investigation, the friends of the victims explained the reasons behind their delayed 911 call.

After the discovery of the bodies of the four students, Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle, the college community completely broke down.

The three friends of the victims, Emily Alandt, Josie Lauteren, and Hunter Johnson, explained that the residents of the house, Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen, were present in the house during the killings. The three further said that Dylan and Bethany contacted them and asked them to come over just a few hours after the murders.

According to the officials, the killings happened between 4:00 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. on November 13, 2022, and the 911 call was made at about 11:58 a.m. that same morning.

Alandt and Lauteren open up about the reasons behind their delayed 911 call in The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare

In The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, when Josie Lauteren stepped inside the house, she was quickly forced back outside, and Johnson, after noticing what was upstairs, told them to dial 911.

Alandt explained that Hunter dared to tell them to call the police even though there was no real reason. He phrased it carefully, saying,

"Tell him there's an unconscious person."

By choosing those words, Hunter spared everyone from extreme trauma by not revealing the actual situation. Lauteren revealed that Mortensen called 911. She said,

"I had to take the phone from her because she was so completely hysterical. They’re like ‘What’s the address, what’s the address, what’s the address?’ and I was like, ‘1122 King Road."

Lauteren further added that Hunter looked at her and shook his head. He told her that they didn't have a pulse. Even after hearing that, Lauteren still believed the paramedics would arrive and revive them.

What happened before calling 911?

In The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, Alandt said,

"I think it’s very important for everybody to know that ‘What if?’ doesn’t matter, because if they had known what was going on, it would have been too late anyway."

Alandt's partner, Johnson, recalled that on the morning of the incident, the day began like an ordinary one. He further explained that he had spent the night at Alandt's apartment, which was located just down the road from the residence where the four students were later discovered dead.

Alandt explained that one of the surviving roommates, Mortensen, had called her and asked her to come over. She told her boyfriend that something unusual had happened the previous night. She said that she was unsure if it had been a dream or reality, but admitted that she felt very frightened and asked him to come over and check the house.
