The finale episode of Cross Season 2, "Quemar", left viewers perplexed about what exactly happened to the avenging murderer, Luz Porras a.k.a. Rebecca.

It seems that Luz had met her end in the finale, although it was pretty much ambiguous. But apparently, it seems that Luz's story does not end after all. There was a soft intimation of Luz's existence in the finale. If you look closely, you will observe Luz's tattoo amongst a swarm of people. This offers a silver lining to the viewers as it is relieving to know that she is not dead after all.
Portrayed by Jeanine Mason, the actor addresses this in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, as she states:
"The idea of her not surviving felt too bleak. I remember on the day, Ben came up to me and said, “Listen, we’re going to do this extra bit where we’re going to see your tattoo in the crowd. And we’re gonna give them a sense that maybe she continues on.”

Cross Season 2 Finale: Jeanine Mason reflects on Luz's story — and why it may not be the end after all
Viewers are still not over the finale of Cross Season 2, and evidently so. After Luz finds out about her aunt Clare's role in the murder of her mother, it looks like she apparently might have killed herself by dismounting from a border bridge. Before her seeming death, she also tells Alex Cross to prosecute Lance Durand for trafficking.
Going by Jeanine Mason's statement, the subtle tease in the end, showcasing Luz's tattoo, certainly gives a strong idea that her story is not over yet. The showrunner, Ben Watkins, deliberately dropped the soft nod as he wanted the viewers to believe that her odyssey was in flux. If at all, Luz's fate would end this way, it would turn out to be too grim and despairing. After all, the character has lived a life in the trenches. So, if her ending turns out to be so gloomy, it could make the finale of Cross Season 2 wrap up with a sense of emotional discontentment.
Continually, Jeanine Mason states further:
"And I very much think she does. I was so relieved. I felt like that was the poetic justice she deserved after such a harsh life and being such a lucha — I keep calling her such a warrior for her people. To me, she never had a sweetness in her life."
This clearly means that Mason, too, craves a hopeful fate for Luz, as she feels 'relieved' after hearing the showrunner's vision. She also acknowledges the immense hardships her character had faced, where Luz's survival becomes a kind of recompensation, or "poetic justice," as Mason says. A ray of hope and redemption is something Luz, after experiencing a trail of pain and suffering, certainly should not be denied.
As the finale of Cross Season 2 is rather vague, we can still expect Luz's story to continue in the next season by picking up the clues that are dropped. Also, Jeanine Mason's statement makes the possibility even stronger. One of the most compelling arcs of the series, we cannot wait to discover what the future has in store for Luz.
