Yes, Owen is alive. The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1 establishes clearly that he has been living off the grid and hatches a plan that would ultimately bring to an end the danger posed by the Campano crime family.

Owen has been staying in a trailer where he spends nights hacking into a secret database that is owned by Nicholas Bell, the grandfather of Bailey. He has yet to have a breakthrough, but he refuses to give up. Meanwhile, he pretends to be a maintenance worker and clicks a picture of Teddy Campano, the son of Frank Campano, as he lurks inside the docks, taking all the necessary evidence without being discovered.

Owen also does not work alone. He is associated with US Marshal Grady Bradford, and they are making an attempt to create a strong case that will bring down the Campano family. In The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1, Owen suspects that a shipping firm known as Rafina can be linked to the crime family. Should he be able to establish such a connection, the entire operation will be derailed.

All he wants to do is to get the Campanos down so that he can finally be with Hannah and Bailey without endangering their lives. But there is a major risk. There was a hint in a past season that somebody within the US Marshals is potentially leaking information to the Campanos. So there is no assurance that Owen’s plan will remain hidden.

To top it all, one of Teddy’s men has already noticed the activity of a suspicious person on security cameras. His face is not entirely seen yet, but by continuing to search, they may recognize Owen and blow the entire scheme open.

Hannah and Bailey, as of The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1, have managed to build a sort of normal life in five years. Hannah cannot help looking back, yet Bailey has grown close to her grandfather Nicholas, and she has a lot of questions concerning her late mother. The agreement between Hannah and Nicholas was what saved them at the end of Season 1: provided that Owen remained off-limits, the Campano family agreed to leave Hannah and Bailey alone.

In The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1, safety does not last. Owen appears in the art show of Hannah, walking quietly through the crowd, and disappears. He sees Bailey outside, but Bailey does not see him. And then he disappears into the street. On his way out, he puts a tiny pendant in Hannah’s pocket. It contains pictures of her and Bailey. It is a quiet moment, but it rattles Hannah. She does not tell anyone and leaves it to herself.

Things get worse quickly in The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1. Soon after the exhibition, a man breaks down Hannah’s door and tells her that there is a gas leak. Hannah soon discovers he is from the mob family that is hunting Owen. The two engage in a fight, and Hannah manages to run away to save Bailey.

Then there is the news that puts it all in perspective. Hannah gets a call from Charlie telling her that Bailey's grandfather, Nicholas Bell, has died of a sudden heart attack. Nicholas is gone, and the truce he had agreed to five years ago with Frank Campano is no longer in existence. The Campan family no longer has a reason to leave Hannah and Bailey alone. It is now easier to get Owen out of hiding by going after them.

Towards the end of The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 Episode 1, Hannah and Bailey are again on the run. Hannah joins Bailey in Cape Cod in an attempt to get in touch with Charlie. When they are in a cafe, the phone rings, and Charlie confirms that Nicholas is dead and they are no longer under protection. Meanwhile, Hannah sees Grady entering the restaurant.

Owen is alive. But the very thing that was keeping his family safe is no longer there. The second season is still in its early stages, but it is already evident that things are going to become much more dangerous.
