Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer will return for a fifth season, as fans wait for Season 4, releasing next week. Netflix confirmed its renewal through a post on Tudum, which was titled "The Lincoln Lawyer Will Return to the Courtroom for Season 5".

Showrunners Dailyn Rodriguez and Ted Humphrey expressed happiness at this renewal to Tudum:

“We’re so excited to share the upcoming season with the audience on Feb. 5, and even more excited to share the news that we’re already hard at work on the next one. Season 4 is the most challenging and intensely personal journey we’ve taken Mickey Haller on yet, and we’re thrilled and grateful to be able to continue the ride in Season 5!”

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 renewal explained:

The third season ended on a shocking note, with the police arresting Mickey Haller as he was accused of murdering Sam Scales. Therefore, Season 4 is set to be Mickey's most challenging season, as the Lincoln Lawyer has to plead his own case in the court of law. Many are hoping that Haller manages to get acquitted in season 4, as the series is already greenlit for another season.

Netflix confirmed the renewal on Wednesday through an official press release on Tudum, reading:

"Los Angeles’s hottest defense attorney rides on. Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) will climb into the backseat of his Lincoln Navigator for the fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer. The legal drama, which follows the Haller and Associates team as they defend LA’s trickiest clients, has been renewed ahead of the launch of Season 4 on Feb. 5."

What's next in line for the Netflix series?

As mentioned before, there are only three seasons of this legal drama on Netflix, with the third one releasing a year and a half ago. So you may want to rewatch the previous season before the fourth one streams next Thursday. For the uninitiated, Season 3 revolved around Mike dealing with Gloria Days' murder. As that happens, he also has to defend a repeat offender that he defended before, Sam Scales.

But the fourth season marks Sam's last season, as the Season 4 finale kills him off. The previous season's finale ends on a rather positive note as Mickey successfully defends the accused in the Gloria Days' murder case, and he decides to go on a vacation. As he drives towards his destination, a police officer notes blood dripping out of his car trunk, and upon opening it, they discover Sam's body.

Thus, the stage is set for the fourth season, as Mickey is in prison in this season. An adaptation of the seventh book, Resurrection Walk, Season 4, promises that fans will see a change in Mickey going forward:

“If you look back at the show, it’s taken this very clear trajectory from a redemption story of a guy flying too close to the sun to being haunted by the sins of the past and now having all kinds of enemies he’s made conspire in a way to bring him down. Season 4 almost takes us full circle back to a guy … feeling like he has to redeem himself again. What that change means to Mickey or how that change manifests itself in his life is obviously something we’re excited to explore going forward.”
