The Lowdown is returning for a second season, and FX has now confirmed when viewers can expect the next chapter of Ethan Hawke’s Tulsa-set crime comedy-drama. It will premiere on October 14, 2026, with Hawke as Lee Raybon, the rare-book dealer who secretly uncovers corruption and ends up in trouble every time.
The new season will follow Lee working on a case that puts him up against powerful people while he's also dealing with personal issues. The Lowdown Season 2 also adds two major names to the cast.
Betty Gilpin joins as Ginger, a public defender who shares Lee’s determination to get to the truth and becomes involved in a mysterious prison disappearance. Tommy Lee Jones, meanwhile, plays Lee’s estranged father, Lee Raybon Sr., whose unexpected arrival in Tulsa creates a very different kind of problem for him.

The Lowdown Season 2 release date and episode schedule revealed
The Lowdown Season 2 is confirmed to be released on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. This marks the return of the main figure, Lee Raybon, as he still has a lot to expose and more enemies to face.
Season 2 is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT on FX, and those who prefer streaming the series will be able to access it on Hulu. And if you don't have Hulu in your region, make sure to check Disney+, as it will offer the show in some countries.
Just like the previous chapter, Season 2 also has eight episodes in total. However, not all episodes will come out on the same day, as The Lowdown Season 2 new episodes will be dropped weekly every Wednesday.
The first chapter was well-received by viewers, as it also has a good score on Rotten Tomatoes. FX officially renewed the show for Season 2 in January 2026 with the return of Ethan Hawke as the protagonist.
Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin join The Lowdown Season 2 cast
The world of The Lowdown expands in Season 2 with two significant additions, played by Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones. Gilpin takes on the role of Ginger, a confident public defender who is just as determined as Lee to uncover the truth.
She meets him to seek help after one of her clients goes missing from the state prison with no visible clue left behind. Since it's about a missing person, Lee finds no reason to ignore it and starts an investigation of his own.
What draws him into solving this case is the possibility of corruption, influential figures, and abuse of power. This also becomes the basis for another story that Lee can pursue through The Heartland Press.
On the other side, actor Lee Jones has stepped into Season 2 with the role of Lee’s estranged father. He's known as Lee Raybon Sr., and his arrival in Tulsa becomes really unexpected for the protagonist.
Lee has previously told his teenage daughter Francis that her grandfather was dead. But after he suddenly appears, this will create tensions in the family. At the same time, this new investigation will keep Lee away from Francis.
His daughter wanted to spend more time with him, but the new case seems to pull him back into danger. The series will bring back other supporting cast members like Keith David as Marty, Kaniehtiio Horn as Samantha, and Rafael Casal as Johnny, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Francis.
